I use the Protein Revolution bars. Only 2.5 grams of carbs per bar and bout

21 (I think - I don't have one here right now) grams of protein. They are

pretty tasty too. There is another bar that I saw but have not tried yet

called Lo Carb 2. Most of the protein bars have a lot of carbs in them and

many also have sugar. I try to avoid both.

1. How long have you been on the diet?

TWO YEARS TODAY!!!!!

2. How long did it take to work?

We saw some improvement inside a month and 50% improved in 3 months

3. What ratio are you on?

Started at 4:1, have dropped as low as 3:1 for a short time when we had good

control, but are now back at 4:1 and considering 4.1:1 or 4.2:1 for a short

time.

4. What type of seizures does your child have?

Tonic clonic, tonic, complex partial, myoclonic, simple partial

5. How much reduction in seizures have you seen? (i.e., pre-diet, 10 per

day, down to 1 per day)

pre-diet - ~20 /day

one month into diet - 10-15/day

three months into diet - 5-10/day

after lamictal wean (finished 6 onths into diet) - 1-2 /day

6. Is your child still on medication?

Yes - clonazepam drops, topamax 75mg 2x daily

7. Does your child have a diagnosis?

She has a brain malformation (polymicrogyria) which is typified by reduced

neuronal migration to the outer layer of the brain and by underdevelopment of

the brain. Some parts of her brain are smooth. This condition has caused

cerebral palsy, seizures, vision impairment, and severe developmental delay.

- from Melbourne, Australia; mum to Hannah, (5yo; polymicrogyria, variety

of seizure types, ketogenic diet since 6/00 which has reduced seizures, spastic

quad.CP and orthopedic issues that go with it, non-mobile, cortical vision

impairment, possible conductive hearing loss, swallowing and respiratory issues,

non-verbal, global dev. delays, 100% gtube fed by Bard button, and a brilliant

smile)

,

She is on only 25 mg 2x a day. She was on that sloooooooooow increase to

avoid the rash, and I stopped increasing her shortly before starting the

diet. I think it's being kept on board just in case we need to try it at

some point, ie if Topamax and/or diet stop working. I don't think 25 2x/day

is at all therapeutic, is it? Meds are all muddled in my mind.

I bought the revised and updated version of " Intuitive Eating " ,

copyright 2003. The original version was copyrighted in 1995. According

to the authors, they added a chapter on eating disorders in this second

edition, as well as a " Step-by-Step Guidelines " appendix. I don't know

if there are any other changes.
