Guest guest
Ann, the thyroid controls so many functions in the body including the fluid to the joints. So if you fix your thyroid your arthritis pain may very well go away!!. Guest guest
Pam, don't feel badly about spending all day on the computer; I do the same thing some days!! I think it's great that we can share what we learn with others and maybe we won't need to spend so much time on the computer!? About your calcium concern, some veggies have a lot of calcium. I'm going to order a book on the nutritional contents of food (I used to have one)so I can be sure of getting a balance, especially of calcium. (I've also started taking a calcium supplement.) I just read an article about supplements which said that tablets pass through our bodies intact and therefore don't benefit us; it recommended taking gelatin capsules or liquids. If you have a book, look up veggies, especially kale, collards, swiss chard, and broccoli. If I remember correctly, they have a hefty amount of calcium. If we ate the quantity of veggies that Dr. D'Adamo suggests, I think most of our calcium needs would be met. Take care. Guest guest
Yes, Ann, maybe if I weren't so worried about get pregnant, then I would be very happy with the diet. Although there is still the issue of calcium. But I feel great while I am eating my beef with my vegs. Although I have had to up my vegs to counteract the candida. But anyway, within time I guess. And I would hope the time would come soon. I spent all day on this pc today searching, reading, typing, instead of doing my house chores. Pam. Guest guest
Yes, I take liquid kelp - I wonder how much calcium is in that? Ha ha, it probably has none. Yes, I had tried the rye crisps with sesame and my movements were very loose. I would love to try the ezekiel bread with sesame but I am afraid to. I don't think the rye crisps had any bad ingredients in them. SO I just figured it was the sesame. Pam.

Guest guest
Thanks Pam, I was so curious about that liquid thyroid. And i never thought to 'chart' my own thyroid by taking temps, but, i guess that makes sense. So...... low temps, we just knock off the soy sauce right? Guest guest
I bought my liquid kelp at the health food store. It states to take 2 drops a day. I take more due to the soy liquids I take. I read that soy can make thyroids hypo, and that is the last thing I want. But I use my basal temps to check for using too much kelp. Pam. Guest guest
I buy kelp granules and use it like salt. I have heard that too much kelp will cause headaches. What is the basal temps method ? . Guest guest
AAahhhhh, throw that soy sauce out!!! Mine has corn syrup and lactase in it. Plus mine says to refigerate - and we keep it in the cupboard. You can tell, we don't use it much. So if your temps are low, add kelp to your diet. If they are high, lower the doseage or stop it alltogether. Pam.
Guest guest
My hubby thinks I am wacko on this diet. Even before I found this diet, I saw what milk products did to me and my son, and my dh still poo pooed the idea. He is a stubborn person. So I will not receive any endorcement at all from him. Although, he does tell our son to curtail his sweets and to eat more healthy, so that is a start. but he would not insist our son to give up the avoid foods - probably because he himself could not give them up. So I trudge alone and influence when I can. Pam.

Guest guest
hi, Greg here.I just had a question for anyone who can help. what is everyone taking for pain. i know you have to take something occasionally. at least i do. ive had some doc. tell me no tylenol at all and some tell me a little bit is ok.most say no asprin because of the blood thinning. i just had 3 wisdom teeth pulled and they knew my liver problems and he gave me vicodin and percocet 5 for pain.i dont know what to take. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONFUSED IN NM GREG
Guest guest
T, what liver disorder do you have? You say your doctor wouldn't give you cough medicine that contained alcohol. I have AIH; once my liver levels were okay, my doctor told me I could drink (in moderation, of course) as alcohol and AIH are two different "situations", as far as the liver is concerned. I very, very rarely drink now, although I like knowing I can. Harper (5/00 AIH)
Guest guest
Debbie, you say you broke your ankle -- we may have discussed this, but have you had a bone density test? Are you taking calcium w/Vitamin D and perhaps Fosamax? Broken ankles often signal a bone problem. Harper
Guest guest
Hello , I like you when on higher mg's would just about eat anything that did not move but is not so bad at the the lower doses. I do not take anything unless my Dr tells me I can.I was not allowed aspirin by the eye Dr years ago. I Dr at Mayo sdale since '98 and have complete faith. My discomfort has been much better today so I assume it is from the therapy and exercises I was given to do. The glucosamine takes about 2-3 mo. to be effective and it is not for pain but for cartlidge protection. Leona From: Tewksbury liver Sent: Sunday, May 27, 2001 9:24 PM Subject: [ ] Ann Hello, I got down to 5mg. a day , but I like 10 mg. Pred. every other day better. Now I am trying 7 and 1/2 every other day and won't go any lower. I ate everything in sight when I first started the pred. in the fall of 1997. I take 50 mg 6MP, same as Imuran. As far as pain medication goes, you should ask your doctor. My doctor told me no aspirin products because it is too rough on the stomach because of the pred. He said I could take 1 tylenol if I was desparate. He made it sound like 1 a year, so I am afraid of it. Other people on this list do take pain pills I just use plastic bags of ice on my head for headaches and for fever. You also have to find out which anti-biotics your doctor thinks are "liver-friendly". The doctor wouldn't give me cough medicine for bronchitis because it has alcohol, but the inhaler worked great, once I got the hang of it. I'm due for another blood work up but the last one was OK. I broke my ankle on St 's Day. No, I was not drinking. Guest guest
Just my two cents worth: I can't imagine any doctor telling a patient with AIH that is okay to drink alcohol, even with normal LFT's. Bonnie P. AIH and post transplant

Guest guest
Ann that is so true. Hunt gets his labs done at Lab Corp. and I have noticed that within the last 6 months they have changed their numbers for normal. For AST and alt's it used to be 60 and below and now it is 40 and below. I guess they change the test or the way that are run or something. Who knows. we just have to trust them to know what they are doing and try to be as informed as possible, Hope you have a good day tomorrow. I was surprised, too, and I asked him twice about drinking. I'm not really interested in alcohol, never have been, so my "drinking" now is in the form of the occasional celebration toast or a couple of sips of wine if an exceptional bottle comes along. That's my choice, because I'm really conservative medically nowdays. I've had one Tylenol in a year, when I had some really bad form of flu that my husband brought back from a Pacific Rim country.
