Hi all, does anyone have an opinion on how MTX would affect anyone who is

seriously underweight. Or doesn't it matter how much one weighs as to the side

effects ? I've been on a restricted diet for ages for my RA (thinking it would

cure me), and lost too much weight. Now i'm trying to put on weight (20

pounds!) and how the heck do you do that ? I never thought would happen to me in

my wildest dreams. Since i started MTX i've been adding in more foods to buffer

the drug a bit. Time to be sensible I think.

thanks for your help...

Leonie-

I believe MTX is dosed by symptoms and severity, not weight. Not everyone gets

the side effects so it would basically be a trial and error situation.

Have you tried Ensure or any similar protein shakes?

Leonie,

Your rheumatologist should be taking your weight into account when

he/she determines the weekly MTX dosage.
