Re: Ice cream

My method is the opposite - if I am overeating an item I buy tons of

it - more than I can ever eat. That way I never feel deprived. And

you know what? A lot of the time, I don't even want it after eating

a bit, because I KNOW that I can eat all I want. Not because I have

banned it from my home. I think that having to go out for the foods

I like all the time would drive me crazy. Also, this sounds like a

diet tip, which, if I am not mistaken, is not what intuitive eating

is about. Is it just me or have postings become more diet focused as

of late? Lots of talk of how to lose weight etc, instead of the key

ideas about IE. There are so many diet groups out there to join if

that is what you want - the reason I joined this group is because it

seems natural and does not promote diet mentality such as " do not

keep forbidden foods in the house " . I do not wish to offend anyone,

but I think this is a little off track. Am I the only one that

feels this way?

I think I understand what you are saying and I have noticed something

along those lines too. But what I have also noticed is that most of

these 'tips' come from people newer to IE and who haven't quite found

how IE works for themselves yet. I remind myself that that too is part

of what this group is about - learning the basics and every 'newbie'

post helps me review my own understand once again.

Also what works for some will not work for others. There is a wide

range of 'methods' here and each of us can take those ideas that seem

good to us and leave the ones that don't appeal. I admire that you

pointed out a comment that you did not like. I think that will help

you as much as when you find what you do like too :) I look forward to

more of your posts :)

I would have to agree with you on this one... I have noticed the same.

I think it is important to welcome all who want to join, but I also

think it is important to call this kind of diet mentality thinking out

as that is not what IE is about in my opinion. Thank you for being

the brave one!

I agree too.. the more of something I have around the less likely I am to feel deprived and therefore less likely to binge. It's a strange concept at first!

As for the appropriateness of posts....these topics were from people who have just started IE so of course they are going to sound more diety. I was like that too when I started IE...I wanted rules to follow like I had while on a diet and how long it would take to lose weight. It takes a long time to "reject the diet mentality," focus less on losing weight and truly see that IE is nothing like a diet.

I think I was the one that started the Ice cream talk. lol and I love

all the different " flavors " of replies I have gotten to how to deal

with my introducing Ice cream back into my life. We all start at

different places and at first I kept things out of the house to feel

safe but I quickly wanted to start practicing eating my favorites with

out going out of my way to get them. LIke right now I want popcorn and

I don't have any and don't want to go to the store. In fact I don't

have anything very exciting in my house. I need to go to the store and

pick up some of my favorites so I can practice some body focused eating.

Good for you for going to the store and getting some of

your " forbidden " foods you like... the thing that we are all doing in

this process is building trust with ourselves and our body signals.

The food will lose it's seductive power if it is available when you

want it-- with the other way around, if you know that at any time you

will pull the rug out and not allow the food in the house, then the

moment it is in the house of course you are going to go hog wild for

it!

Thank you Katcha, excellent point about IE being a different

experience for everyone.
