Guest guest
I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to work or not. I know that I am not supposed to be counting calories, I am keeping track on Thedailyplate but that is because I was wondering how many calories I would take in if I stopped worrying about what I ate and just ate what I wanted when I was hungy. Here is what I have found so far.... I have been eating what I want when I am hungry throwing to the wind if it is chalk full of calories or not. And I tally it up and have found that I am eating less, yes, LESS. I am taking in less calories than I was before, and before I was struggling. Now I am not. I am not even caring how many, just when I am hungry I eat. And if that means hamburger helper, or a slice of pizza then that is what I eat. I cant believe it! I have been exercising for about two and a half weeks now, but just in this last week and a half I guess stopped caring about the calories. And I am noticing a difference in my body, not a weight change, but the shape. And I know that muscle weighs more. I have been so programmed into thinking that it has to taste like cardboard to help me loose weight, that I never would have thought that I could stop worry about the amount of calories and just go with it and it work. Eating is not something to dwell on anymore. I have stayed satisfied longer too! Amazing!!!!!! Tammy
Guest guest
Congrats on the IE baby step Tammy! The thought of counting calories sends a shiver thru my body I remember reading posts when I started here along the lines of amazement about how little a person tended to eat and still be satisfied. I thought that would never happen to me but lo and behold it did. Guest guest
Tammy,It's great that you're experiencing a natural and balanced difference with IE. I think that being informed about calories is a useful and informative tool especially for processed foods...food is energy...and calories have some basis in reality...for me the problem is when we get obsessed with calorie counting or use calories to restrict ourselves. Getting an understanding of the amount of calories we consume when we eat intuitively is really cool. For me, it helps me understand a certain reality about weight gain/loss. Although food intake and movement is not the end all be all of weight loss/gain...if I know that I take in a certain range of daily calories (when I honor my hunger as well as when I eat when I'm not hungry) and that the physical movement that I'm comfortable with comes nowhere near to balancing the amount that I take in...then I can accept the reality that I will probably gain....if my intuitive caloric intake balances out with my movement...then I'll probably maintain...etc. I can work with the issues that prevent me from eating intuitively and moving joyously in service of my intention to experience balance in my life.I'm getting better and better at honoring my body cues for eating and my body cues for movement with the IE principles and I have confidence that a harmony will be achieved and renegotiated throughout my life. It's very cool that you were able to use knowledge of calories to validate that honoring your hunger and your preferences actually does yield a more balanced experience for you. Guest guest
Latoya, It is great! I just never would have believed that eating what I wanted would be less or even equaled to what I was supposed to be taking in calorie wise to loose weight on these diets. Yet, I am not restricted to the foods.... And I think that I am not wanting to over eat as much because I am enjoying what I eat, so I take my time and enjoy..... What a concept huh?! I am more interested in exercise too, I think that comes from feeling more happy. :)I feel better already.... Guest guest
Katcha, I have read here a couple of times about people gaining at first, I believe that this is because when we have always dieted most times, we only eat what that diet says, and most of the time that means nothing that is what we actually crave. Meaning no sweets, no pizza, or anything of the like. So, when we get into this, IE, we realize that we can have those things, and I believe that we go a little overboard at first until we realize that we can have these things and dont have to shove them all in until we have to go back to that old diet. When I dieted in the last few years it was the calorie counting. I would eat at least one sweet thing a day and work it in to my calorie range. But most I dont believe do that. So, I think that is why I am not really taking in any more than normal. Or like I said even less. I think that soon I will get to the point where I realize that I wont have to keep that little log even though I am not going to stop at a certain calorie limit. I am looking forward to that.
