Guest guest
J,I also purchased The Taming of the Chew: A Holistic Guide to Stopping Compulsive Eating by Lamothe, which had some useful info. I've not yet read "Overcoming Overeating" or Koening's The Food and Feelings Workbook and I've heard good things about both of this resources.I can relate with what you said about getting really tired of "going to the cupboards". On the point of coping with emotions, I've found it to be a long-term process of self-discovery, patience, and care for myself...identifying what emotions are driving me and finding new options to deal with them that appeal to me. What do you really like to do? I've made a list of go to things that I really like to do in order to help emotions move through my system more quickly. I read a book some years back by Karla McLaren and she shared that the Latin root for the word emotion is "emovere" which means 'to move outward or onward.' Thinking about emotions in terms of movement has been very helpful to me. So, I've endeavored to help those emotions move through my system. I've learned that any sort of movement like breathing, dancing or walking has a balancing effect and helps me manage my emotions much better. I particular love doing the dance dance revolution game that I learned about on this group. I've also been experimenting with regular movement as a way to prevent emotions from building up in my body...so I've been walking, dancing, or doing step aerobics for 27 minutes every morning. I'm on my 87th day of this movement practice and I think that it's made a world of difference for me.
