Hi Dena,

Thanks for writing. It is overwhelming at first. I'm new to IE too.

I've decided that I'm going to keep things simple at first. I've also

decided that since I'm never going to go on another diet I have the

rest of my life to work on this. So I really am in no rush to get

this figured out.

I'm using the book Intuitive Eating as a guide. There are 10

principles listed in the book and I'm just going to focus on one of

those principles each week for the next 10 weeks. This is week one

for me. I'm just focused on " Rejecting the Diet Mentality " for this

week.

I'm still trying to learn when I'm hungry and stopping eating when no

longer hungry. I'm allowing myself to eat whatever I really want to

eat. But these things are not my focus this week, so if I don't get

this down pat right now, its okay.

I don't know if sharing my little plan of mine helps you at all since

this thing is so individualized, but I wish you well on your IE

journey. I'm sure things will fall into place for you.

Arnie, I really like your plan and I am thinking that perhaps many of us could study/do the 10 principles together over the next 10 weeks, sharing our experiences and insight as we work on each principle. What do you all think?

I think that is a great idea!! Rejecting the diet mentality is a

challenge in itself as it's everywhere. I still occasionally get

that little voice that creeps into my head and I have to reject those

thoughts.

Sue (and all others), myself and several others have done this using a

specially set up Yahoo group and while I liked it, it turned out that

others found the 'class' like study format too 'rules' like. Gillian

is in the process of discovering how she can set up a COACHED group

which would be a membership one. But in the mean time, I can't think

of any reason why you couldn't start a Topic on one of the Principles

and everyone can respond to it. The only hard part could be timing in

that members join at different times and may be more 'new' or

'advanced' compared to others? Here that works out well because we all

learn so much from each other! So why not give it a try and see if it

adds to the info here?

All -

Thanks for providing some guidelines. It would be great to at least

set up a topic for each principle (if I'm not being too bold by

suggesting this given I've just joined). I know I'm spending time

going back to older posts to get advice so if people see a principle

in a topic, they can go to it whenever they join.

I think I'm going to start trying to write my thoughts and really

spend time on getting rid of the diet mentality. I'm guessing it

will be a lot of mental coaching.

I'm also going to slow down trying to do it all immediately.

Thanks!
