Guest guest
Hi , I do! Add humidity to the mix and I'm done. I'm much happier in the fall and winter. I try to do outdoor things early in the am if possible, if I can " uncoil " or later at night, like walk my dogs. I also make sure my house is cool, my clothes are cotton, things like that. Right down to wherever I'm going has got to be cool. If a friend of mine has no AC, then I won't go. I hate that it has to be that way, but I end up all swollen and in pain if I don't follow this rule " . Summer is a great time for retail therapy! LOL, malls are great! I hope this helps, but if anything, you are not alone! Heidi in Mass. " Until one has loved an animal, part of their soul remains unawakened. " [ ] Flare in Summer? Is there anyone else who flares more when the temperature goes up? I seem to be flaring a lot more lately. It seems weird to me. The heat is supposed to be good, or so I thought. Could it be from extra activities? I try to keep things " normal " for my daughter. I guess that means an increase of activities. UGH! Not sure, but I've had enough. Any other thoughts? Does anyone else flare more when its warm? Thanks all. (in extremely hot TX)
Guest guest
Hi , I also live in TX, the dallas area, and it is funny that you mention that. I was doing great in April, but it seems May and now June are not so great, maybe it is this crazy humidity. Let me know if you find out anything good. Guest guest
Hi , I've not posted here in a great while but you being from Texas and all :-)))) Texan here :-) Most RA folks do flare in the summer but not from the heat specifically. It's mainly the humidity. I hear that a lot from a lot of folks no matter where they live if it's humid there. Stay out of the sun & in where there's a/c :-)))) Nae [ ] Flare in Summer? > Is there anyone else who flares more when the temperature goes up? I seem > to be flaring a lot more lately. Guest guest
Hi ,  For me it is not the temperature but the humidity. It can be hot and dry and I am fine. But hot and humid and I want to crawl under a rock. Extra activities will prompt a flare for me. I have to be very careful to not over-do it. And cold and damp....forget it....might as well as take me to the back forty and shoot me. That is the worst!  I imagine everyone is different but summer is better for me than winter. Guest guest
I flare with weather change of any kind. Heat is good, but, at least around where I am, there is most often humidity. My joints can predict rain 2 days in advance and I an in lots of pain for up to 2 days after. Now being that NJ can often have a full month of rain, that is not good. My lupus flares in that the insomnia part is full blown and I feel so rotten all over. I can have weeks on end that I can only get about 3-4 hours sleep. Then of course I have to take a nap during the day, so I am all screwed up for awhile. Dottie -- [ ] Flare in Summer? Is there anyone else who flares more when the temperature goes up? Guest guest
Thanks all for the replies. I never thought about the humidity. LOL! I just wasn't thinking that way, but yes, that can definitely be it. We have been very hot and humid lately. So much so that my hubby says he's been swimming to work. I just couldn't put two and two together. LOL. I'm glad to learn I'm not alone as well. Anyhow, I guess I'm ready to not hurt again. Hate feeling awful. Take care all. > > Is there anyone else who flares more when the temperature goes up? I seem to be flaring a lot more lately. It seems weird to me. The heat is supposed to be good, or so I thought. Guest guest
Does anyone out there live in Arizona? If so, I would love to hear what you think of the weather there with the RA. Thanks, Janet
Guest guest
Hi Janet,  I'm in Silver City, NM which is in the southwest corner of the state about an hour from the AZ border. I'm at 6,000 ft elevation. So the climate here may or may not be like yours in AZ depending on where you live. We have highs in the summer in the 90's and lows in the winters in the 20's. The weather here has been a dramatic improvement for me and the intensity of my RA symptoms.  I find that the warmer temps (I came from WI) and the drier humidity has given me my life back. While I still have inflammation and pain, at least now I can get out of bed and do a few things. I am on crutches but I think another winter in WI would have killed me. Seriously, it was that bad. I absolutely love it here and would never go back. I was first diagnosed a year ago about this time, but was working a lot of nights and getting very little sleep, which I think made things extremely bad. I'm working nights again (yearly cycle of patching computers) and flaring again. Right after I was diagnosed last year, before I was put on any meds, I flew to India to adopt my daughter. I was really anxious about the trip and my RA was in really bad shape, but I had to go. It was miserably hot there and we were just resigned to drowning in sweat - but my RA pain completely disappeared within about a day. And I was good for at least a month after the trip. So I thought heat definitely helped. J.
Guest guest
Same here!! I have to be up at 7:30 and it's extremely rare if I can fall asleep before 5 or 6! But you can bet as soon as jrs on the bus and it's time to leave for work if I lay down I'm out cold! I wonder what causes that. It has to have something to do with the night air. I was diagnosed recently but was sick for ages. Friends n family have teased me about being a vampire since I was a teenager. The sun makes me terribly tired and weak.
