Guest guest
Hi Nicki! Is Vantin (sp?) minocycline??? Anyway, try begging your doctor for lots of samples! I did that (ya know, if a bit of grovelling will help--it's worth a try!) and got 6 weeks of minocycline. Actually, nothing else had helped much and I was tired of buying and ultimately not finishing prescriptions because of the side effects. I'm doing pretty well on the minocycline--seems to help the eye symptoms, a little, too. Good luck to you Carol ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Although I have already posted a couple of things , I have not intoduced myself yet. So here I go... My name is Mark and I have a daughter ( 4yrs 8mos) with RSS. Her story is the same as many others. Low birth weight and height, poor appettite at about 6 mos she labelled 'Failyr to thrive " and off to the specialist we were. had several hospitalizations because of dehydration during what should have been a simple cold. Just before her first birthday got a stomach bug and was losing weight fast. After a few days at a communutity hospital, my wife kicked butt and took names and got admitted to Children's Hospital of Boston. After a couple of days there she was finally diagnosed with RSS. It wasn't long before the G-tube was mentioned, but we put it off. We did diet change with calorie boosting powders, periactin and pediasure (orally) in different combonations there of. actually was doing pretty well. We found that would take a 5 or 6oz bottle of Pediasure while watching a movie and we would do this 3-5 times a day. We did this until was three. Shortly after her third birthday it became evident that it was time for to get off the bottle (and away from the TV) . The bottle was interfering with 's social development and her younger brother was switching to a cup. She lost weight steadily for about 2 months. Ken this where I can really relate to where you are with . So after over 2 years of dening the G-Tube we decided it was time. On Dec.21st 1998 received the tube. She has rersponed well and is growing and gaining. It also has made my wife more relaxed around meal times. The constant worry about will she eat enough with each meal. No more coaxing, proding and entertaining. We offer her food and always try to make the most of it, but it is a comfort knowing she will get the calories anyway. And now after a year of the tube we find eating more ( popcorn with lots of butter is a favorite). Still not enough to sustain her but every little bit helps. is currently 33lbs and 38inches. It so awesome knowing so many of you been there, done (doing) that. Mark

Guest guest
, My plan is to have the RNY. Your weight loss is spectacular!!! Did your Dr advise you of any waiting period post-op before you shoould become pregnant? I have heard rumors that you should wait one year. I am also wondering if the weight gain during pregnancy is diminished due to this surgery. Any thoughts? Where are you from and how old are you? Guest guest
I am from NY and I didn't really keep in touch with the doctor that did my wls. But I have been on the vbg list and I learned a lot from there, I knew I had to wait at least my year and that is what I did. Then I knew it would take months to get a period and it did. Now I can only wish " I KNEW " that I will get pregnant.. LOL The doc knew that is one main reason I went for wls to get pregnant, and he said good idea. Actually my gyn and reg doc all supported me on that. I am lucky there.. I see the gyn on the 15th I hope he can shed some light into this and maybe do some tests or something and see if everything looks good. My intent is to keep all data sources confidential but to present the information to NIAMS, the American Women's medial Association, The American College or Rheumatology, various FMS advocacy groups.
