Guest guest
I hope you are all doing well. So, I thought I was " lucky " to have RA if I was going to get an auto-immune disease. Boy was I wrong. I am on a ton of medicines that are ripping up my esophogus and stomach. The problem is that I need these medicines. I feel stuck in a vicious cycle of not eating. I was 96 lbs. last month, and now I am down to 92 lbs. I'm tiny and can't afford to lose any more weight. I'm on Zantac 150, Prilosec, Dexilant, and Carafate. It all stopped working again...I have missed so much work since I came back from medical leave from my RA in January. My boss told me today he's worried about my attendance. Me too! I can't lose this job! I'm sick or at the doctors all the time! Nobody is going to want me! Anyway, have you gone through this? What long term solution worked for you? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Missiep.... Sorry that you're dealing with this. I have similar issues..thinking it was sinuses and then the constant throat clearing and blowing my nose. I know that the meds are doing a number on my throat too. I do take nexium but I'm sure I should get the dose increased since I just take 10 mgs a day. Medications that we take for our r/a can have so many ugly side effects. I don't feel the heartburn..and there is a different reflux disease called LPR...which doesn't have heartburn as a symptom. I'm so sorry that you're not eating. I hope you're able to talk to your doctor about this. I really don't have any solutions. I did find that when darvocet was banned..my rheumy put me on 5 mgs hydrocodone which seems to clear up the sinus and constant throat clearing. what symptoms are you having? Wish I could be or more help. I know people with r/a go thru a lot of this...maybe someone else can help. I've seen an ENT about this and he has called it rhinitis, eurstachin tube dysfunction. I was tested for allergies also and have no allergies. It's always something new with r/a. Have you had an endoscopy? Good luck..wish I could be of more help. a > > I hope you are all doing well. > So, I thought I was " lucky " to have RA if I was going to get an auto-immune disease. Boy was I wrong. Guest guest
I also am currently having a persistent case of acid reflux. I have been through Lansoprazole (Prevacid), then Omeprazole (Prilosec), Ranitidine (Zantac) with Domperidone (Motilium), and now on Pantprazole (Protium) and Metoclopramide (Reglan). None have helped with my heartburn symptoms. My GP will schedule me for endoscopy next. I first had acid reflux 2 years ago after the death of my mom, that was before I had RA (a year ago). My acid reflux was due to H. Pylori (diagnosed with endoscopy despite negative blood tests) and a couple of cycles of antibiotics and Prilosec put that to rest. However, on starting NSAIDs for RA a year ago, I was prescibed Prilosec again to avoid gastro problems. I was fine until Sept last year when I underwent radiotherapy for a benign brain tumour. Nausea was bad and I had to skip some meds as they come back out again. Luckily my RA stayed under control because I continued taking it regularly as soon as I can. But Prilosec, I stopped taking regularly and only took it occasionally because I was taking so many meds and it seems I don't have any acid reflux. That could have been a mistake because I started having acid reflux symptoms again this January, and which Prilosec and all the subsequent meds have not been able to control since. I tested negative this time for H pylori. Have you had any of the tests done? I hope we both find relief in this. By the way, I spoke to a colleage today about acid reflux. She suffers from it for years now but doesn't have RA. She said she's discovered that garlic (which she loves) triggers her acid reflux so she completely stopped taking any garlic as she didn't want to risk any attacks. I might give that a try. All the best, Rose ..
Guest guest
I don't have acid reflux per se but have had intermittent pain from an h.pylori ulcer that won't go away, no matter what I do. The most reliable way to keep the pain at bay is to go off coffee and sugar totally for several months. As I do not have the will power to do that, I suffer with the pain. UNTIL I recently discovered Krill oil. I know I know, sounds like an infomercial, but really, this stuff works like a miracle drug. You have to get the best kind out there to be certain that it's pure and fresh, I get mine at the Vitamin Shoppe here in town, they have a website as well. I get the Mercola brand, the recommended dosage is two per day, but my pain is managed with just one a day. Krill oil has other good benefits on the body too. I've taken salmon oil for years and never had the side effect of eliminating ulcer pain, so it's something unique to the krill. I highly recommend it for GI upset, pain or acid reflux. power to the peacemakers, ♥River
