Hi Janna,

Welcome to the group!!! I only had mild psoriasis on my head,

but I've had the arthritis attack every joint in my body. I had a

finger joint that would catch and it also makes grinding noises and I had

an elbow that wouldn't straighten out, like yours, for about a year.

I'm now on Enbrel and can straighten my elbow and I'm pain free in all

my joints except my fingers which still have some stiffness. I have

a finger that won't completely straighten. It's because of the swelling

that is in the joint.

Thank you so much for the reply. I'm wondering why my doctor has never mentioned

injecting the joint. He did recommend that I see a doctor about a possible

replacement, but they won't do one because I am so young. I've had e-ray after

e-ray, about 1/2 a dozen MRIs, and physical therapy, but no such luck. I've sort

of gotten used to not being able to use it, but it gets very frustrating when I

want to play volleyball, softball, etc... I'll mention to my doc about possibly

injecting the joint. Someone else in the group mentioned that they were taking

Enbrel for their frozen joint. Do you know anything about that?

God Bless,

Janna

Thank you for hte reply. I have never heard of Enbrel. Is it new? I thought I'd

taken just about all that was out there. Can you tell me a little more about it?

I'm very interested.

I know the feeling. A friend of mine had a baby last Dec. Before she did I

talked to her a little about shots. I tried to stress simply delaying them,

as I knew she would definately want them but in my opinion they should at

least be given later. Give those little immune systems time to build on their

own before you knock them down. Well, she insisted that since her Dr. told

her they were safe at 1 day, 2 months and so forthat that they were the right

thing to do. My neighbor even talked to her about her son's autism possibly

being connected. She didn't care, " The DR. said! "

I have another friend who is due in Oct and I casually talked to her a little

about vaccinations. She does plan on delaying them. So, I feel that was a

success. I will not do them. My mind is set. They will have NONE. But, I at

least feel that I know some people will have them no matter what, so at least

delaying, and doing them seperately seems a bit safter. I read in your case

the poor little guy had. 4. That just seems so hard on their systems, and

I've read somehere that it can throw (or at least could before) thron their

mercury level over toxic when they get a few at a time. I know they are

cutting/removing Thermosol now, so I'm not sure if that's still the case.

I'm sure you have probably read that you will never hear that vaccines are

causing any major problems as WAY too much money is involved. States get more

grants for higher immunization rates. Vaccinations are big business!

And, they know there are side effects and problems, but they are using the

" For the good of teh herd " theory. Well, I just don't want my child to be the

one sacrificed for the good of the herd.

I question everything. Yes, I drive doctors batty

LOL but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing and not jsut go along ith

everything!

hi teresa,

welcome to the group!

i have had similar experiences with western medicine and i only started

getting better when i decided to go to a homeopath/naturopath midwife here

in massachusetts. i don't have insurance either and am on a limited budget

but, i made some changes and sacrifices in order to go. i never had to

barter for care but, i know someone who does - that may be a possibility for

you. most people (well at least homeopaths) are reasonable and may be able

to offer you a payment plan that you can deal with. i have also been doing

much research on my own and feel like these two things (my homeopath and my

research)are the only reasons why i have been able to start on my way to

recovery (and i am, without a doubt on my way). lastly, do not take anymore

antibiotics try to keep you immune strong with boosters like Echinacea.

keep yourself healthy and good luck!

Welcome! My daughter (17 mos) was recently diagnosed, and this group has

provided me with so much information, and has helped me accept that the

diagnosis is not the end of the world. It's good to hear your daughter is

doing well. One question -- I thought that with pauciarticular arthritis,

the same joint is not usually affected on both sides. Were your daughter's

two knees affected at different times? I'm curious because my daughter is

currently affected in only one knee.

Welcome! This is a great site, with lots of good information and nice people.

I think most of us here have had the great debate about steriods. I REALLY

don't like that my son takes them. Every time I see my son's specialists

I have them explain to me again that more damage will result from the

JRA then low dose Prednisone. I have come to believe in aggressive

drugs for JRA, as you said, having joints replaced isn't a great option.

That said, my son is at last decreasing Prednisone and intends to go all

the way off it. (5mg a day for 5 years.) We are able to do this

because MTX and Enbrel are working. Thanks, Jana

Hi, and welcome! My daughter, Kelsey is 3 and has polyarticular jra. She

was just diagnosed this past April, but started having her first symptom

about a year prior. She, too, has been going to pool therapy, which she

loves, and is taking Naprosyn. I'm thinking swimming will be an excellent

sport for her if she's interested, at what age did your daughter start

lessons and swimming on a team? My other daughter is 8 and took some lessons

last year, but was basically taught by us and other family members. She's

like a little fish now! I know they offer lessons for babies even, so I'm

thinking about calling and at least getting some info.

I look forward to hearing more from you, and since you're a nurse I'm sure

I'll have questions for you sometime :) Have a nice evening,

Yikes. I keep praying nothing shows up in any other joint. So far so good,

I'm NEW

Hi all....just found this list, and I'm thrilled! My daughter was diagnosed just over 5 years ago at the age of 2 and a half with pauci-articular. She's incredibly resilient and the past couple of years it's been very well managed, and she's had very little discomfort. I have so far refused to let her be treated systemically with steroids, and have stuck with NSAIDs and a couple of aspiration/steroid injections to the most severly affected sites(both knees so far, her affected wrist and ankle are OK...knock on wood). She swims on a swim team during the winter, and I truly believe that her love for swimming and some of her ability came from the pool therapy she had for 2 years, when first diagnosed. My concerns are for her future and what the long term affects willbe. The damage done to her knees certainly will not regenerate itself, and I cringe when I think of her having knee replacements before the age of 30.I'm tickled to have found this site and I'm more than open to having anyone contact me to share experiences and support! For links to websites with JRA info visit: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Village/8414/Links.html

Hi Diane....thanks for the welcome! No, the diagnosis is definitely

NOT the end of the world, and I believe it makes our children

stronger for having to endure and overcome.

To answer your question: YES. Hannah's knees were affected at

different times. Her left knee was the original site, and I was told

at the time of diagnosis that if it did not spread within 6 months,

that it wouldn't.....WELL.....18 months later her right knee was

affected.

I'm happy to share any info I have with you...it's soooooooo nice to

have people in the same boat as us.

itch that had plagued me for years.

Sorry for briefness of this note =)

Hi a~ I'm in Wash state too, Tri-Cities area. Don't you just hate that

never- ending itch! Used Vagistat twice in one month, myself. I'm having

terrible lower abdominal pain for 2 wks now, have been to doctor, will get an

well it could be just the yeast making more misery. I too am not a big meat-

don't know how to really give them up. I'd like to find a simpler way of

knocking out the yeast than giving up the foods we love. I've never tried

Nystatin but would like to. Good luck to you.

FYI, candida can cause fibroids, so if you have one don't panic. Keeping to

the diet and avoiding dairy can really help.

Hey a,

I have never heard of Diflucan as a matter of fact, all of the " western

medicine " type doctors that i have seen refused to admit that i had anything

wrong with me, let alone try to treat it. it wasn't until i went to a

homeopath/naturopath that i had even heard of candida. she told me about

the diet and it took me four months to mentally prepare to quit sugar. But,

i am here to encourage you to stick to the diet i have been on it for about

9 weeks and am feeling fabulous. it was very difficult for me because i am

vegan to begin with...so you can imagine. but, i am willing to stay on this

diet for the rest of my life if it means being a healthy normal girl (libido

and all-thanks you guys for all the humor). anyway back to the

encouragement: just think of it as an investment into yourself. candida

makes one cantankerous and causes premature aging and all sorts of nasties.

stick to the diet! and when your feeling down go and get a massage or some

good smelling aromatherapy essential oil (like peppermint which is supposed

to be good for candida sufferers). i read julia butterfly hill's book -the

legacy of luna. this book gave me tons of inspiration i figure, if

butterfly can hang out in an ancient redwood tree through two winters

completely vulnerable to the elements, i can stave off a seemingly

insignificant unhealthy addiction...and you can too.
