Guest guest
Hi P I have just been reading the below reply to a new member from yourself and note that you said when your TSH was 9 you were practically bedridden. Can you tell me what other symptoms you had please. The reason I ask is that my Daughter was found, purely by accident, to have a TSH of 8.62 T4 towards the upper end and no mention of the T3. Although I questioned my GP he said that it was nothing to worry about. I insisted my Daughter be referred to an Endocrinologist. This he did, but he put his own comments on the referral letter to the Endo consequently the endo didn't even examine my Daughter. It took about another 9 months and more to get another Endo. He did his own bloods and her TSH was 7.88 Free T4 12.4 (range 7.5-21.0) Free T3 5.6 (range 3.67-10.43). In 1 year her TSH had been raised and nothing done. So I hope you didn't mind me asking you about how you felt when your TSH was 9. My Daughter is practically bedridden too, along with a lot of other symptoms. Thanks for any help or input you can give me. Best Regards Vickyanne > > > > Hello. I'm new. My sister has hypothyroidism. My TSH is I think 8.6 or something like that. My T4 has been 10. I had test done before and TSH was 6 and T4 11 (this is from my memory). My GP says I don't need treatment yet. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired. What can I do? >
Guest guest
Hi Vickyanne, I don't mind telling you about the symptoms I had when my TSH was around 9. I am happy to help with info. That is what we are here for - to help each other (: Does any of the following sound familiar? Is your daughter suffering from any of these symptoms? * I could hardly get out of bed when my TSH was around 9. * I walked with a limp and found that my joints ached badly. * I couldn't walk more than about 50m before I had to stop for a short rest. * I became quite fatigued after having a shower. Sometimes having a shower was enough to put me back in bed. * I used to have a responsible job prior to being diagnosed, but when my symptoms became bad I found that even simple data entry was too hard for me to do. I had to stop working, and have only done a couple of small easy jobs since 2007. I am hoping to start an 'easy' job soon, but it is only short term and my employer knows I have health issues, so they are willing to be completely flexible about work days and times. I'm only mentioning that so you can see the long term impacts of this 'thyroid stuff' for me. * When my TSH was around 9 I got easily confused while trying to do simple arithmetic. I still have difficulties with simple arithmetic, but prior to getting thyroid issues, it never used to be a problem. * I also found it harder to comprehend what people were telling me when my TSH was around 9, and I think I didn't express myself as clearly as I used to. Prior to being diagnosed, I used to deal with quite high level executive staff, so my comprehension levels and ability to communicate well were quite good. That all fell out the window when my TSH was high. * My hair started falling out, even though I didn't really notice it too much. It was my hairdresser who told me that I had lost 1/4 to 1/3 of my hair! * My eyebrows were thin, but they became even more thin. * I couldn't follow conversations like I used to. I used to help write and edit scientific reports, however I couldn't even understand them when my TSH was around 9. This was quite distressing, as I used to help my biologist partner and bounce ideas around with him, but I was unable to do that while I was so unwell. I still notice that my comprehension isn't fantastic, but it is definitely better than it was back then! Does your daughter suffer from any of these symptoms? Guest guest
Hi P Oh my goodness she has all of those symptoms. In fact she has to really build herself up mentally to even attempt to have a bath and then after she collapses on the bed. It is most distressing for her. And yes she is losing hair - in fact the year before last she developed a bald patch on the back of her head. Her Doctor dismissed it as her immune system being low and that she had to get on with it. No advice at all. Really bad joint pain. She cannot walk far at all. She used to be an " A " student. Very bright girl. Now her words are very slow, memory poor, cannot hold much of a conversation. The list goes on. Can't thank you enough for your response on this. And I am so sorry you had to go through all you did. It must have been so distressing for you not to have been able to be at your optimum when you had clearly been top of what you did. I really wish you well now. Rest assured you have really helped by responding with this information. Just one thing, when you say your joints ached, just how bad was it? Did you at one point think it might be arthritis? And were you told it was that and to live with it? Sorry for all the questions, I know you have to get on with your life. All the best Vickyanne > > > I have just been reading the below reply to a new member from yourself and note that you said when your TSH was 9 you were practically bedridden. Guest guest
Vickyanne When did your daughter last have her thyroid tested and was the TSH still elevated in the most recent tests? Have you considered getting a second opinion? St Barts is supposed to be good for people with endocrine problems (including pituitary problems). I can't see how your daughter is supposed to feel well with an elevated TSH. If anything, cortisol replacement should lower the TSH so if it is still elevated after treatment then that indicates a problem. I wouldn't accept 'normal' for an answer. > > Oh my goodness she has all of those symptoms. Guest guest
Vickyanne, Thank you for your kind words. I'm more than happy to help with info, based on my own situation. Ask as many questions as you like! I am happy to answer anything. I'm not always on the forum, so if you post a question and I don't answer, please just send me a private message and I will respond to your message. So sorry to hear that your daughter has all of the same symptoms as I used to have. I genuinely feel for her. You mentioned that her words are slow and her memory poor. Out of interest, my speech also slowed down considerably and I was often searching for words. It is still an issue for me, but it doesn't happen as often as it used to. I have found that my short term memory seems particularly affected. I'm still definitely not 100% health wise, but I am better than I used to be. I still have some yucky symptoms, and I still have almost constant fatigue and exhaustion, but I am not debilitated to the degree that I used to be. Although I am not a doc, I really think that your daughter needs to see a doctor who will be willing to take her situation seriously and give her thyroid replacement hormone, based on her high TSH level and her symptoms. I am speaking from experience because exactly the same thing happened to me, as my first doc didn't think there was a problem with my thyroid even though my levels were 'borderline' and then above the highest end of the range, and the fact that I was obviously unwell. I had to find a different doc to help me, and luckily I did. Unfortunately, thyroxine hasn't helped me too much, but I'm better than I was at the beginning. I have an 80 year old friend who used thyroxine after being diagnosed as hypothyroid and it literally changed her life after about 6-8 wks and she got all of her energy back. A work colleague used it and found exactly the same thing - her energy returned when she was on the correct dosage. Unfortunately for many of the people on the forum (including me!) thyroxine hasn't helped a lot, but who knows, your daughter may respond well to it and feel so much better - just like my 80 year old friend!!!!! Please send your daughter to a different doctor, as her TSH level is just too high not to be treated. You asked about how badly my joints ached when I was first diagnosed with hypothyroidism (and in my case, Hashimoto Disease). I thought I had arthritis. Some days I could not use a can opener nor open a jar because the pain was so bad. On other days it was hard to bend my fingers to make a fist. It often hurt to put my feet down on the floor when I got out of bed. Sometimes it hurt to roll over in bed. My docs ran a number of blood tests to look for inflammatory markers, etc. All of the tests came back as normal. I am more than happy to give you the names of tests I had, etc, but won't do this unless you need the info because hunting down the test thing will take a while, BUT I am more than happy to do it if it will help you and your daughter sort out her health issues (: My doc is a 'normal' GP but he has a nutritional medicine focus, so when I was having all my difficulties he prescribed a product called Thorne Pic-mins http://www.thorne.com/Products/Minerals/Multi_Minerals/prd~M243.jsp . Luckily Pic-mins greatly helped with the bad joint pains and 'arthritic' type symptoms, and they eased considerably. It also helped my sister because she has similar problems to me. I don't use it now, but it helped me at the time. It is something that a naturopath usually prescribes. I think it is made in the US. Of course you would need to check with a health professional about whether it would be OK for your daughter to use it or not, as I am not a doc and can't give that sort of advice, but if it is Ok for her to use, it might be worth a try. I'm not saying that it will definitely work for your daughter (if it is ok for her to use it and suits her medical condition, etc), however it worked for me. Every now and again, the arthritic type symptoms and joint pains still flare up for me, however they are no way as bad as they used to be. I hope this info is helpful. You are more than welcome to contact me and ask me anything that you like. You said 'sorry for all the questions, I know you have to get on with your life'. Please don't feel like this. We are all on the forum to help each other. In fact, helping one another is what life is all about, isn't it? Well, it is in my estimation. Even if a little bit of info that I can give you helps you and your daughter in some way, then I am happy (: P xo > Oh my goodness she has all of those symptoms. Guest guest
Oh! I forgot to mention that my menstrual cycle became irregular, as well. It is still unpredictable. I can get my period anywhere between day 16? 17? to day 24 or so. Sometimes it runs on time, but it is usually a bit out of whack. The neurologist that I saw recently (long story and not really thyroid related) checked my hormonal levels in case I was heading into menopause, but she determined that I'm not. Guest guest
Hi, I've just joined.I've been diagnosed for nearly 2 years now and was considered 'in remission' as of November 2010. This winter (January) I got pneumonia. As a resut of the infection my RA was reignited. I had no idea this could happen and consequently lost time contacting my rheumatologist. Did anybody out there-besides rhematologists- know this?Should it be more common knowledge? thanx, Jillian
Guest guest
Hey - another Sylvia! Welcome to the group. This group is a wealth of information. Any question you have about vaccines can be answered here. You have certainly come to the right place! Sylvia Pimentel > > HI: > My name is Sylvia and I am excited to be a part of this list serve. Over the last few years I have become more aware of the concerns surrounding vaccines. My son, now 24, was vaccination damaged I believe in utero. They were low so I got vaccinated and compliantly waited the three months before attempting conception. Well, I conceived immediately at three months. I believe this set the stage. I did mentioned it to our doctor the unusual reaction but he said there was no correlation. Guest guest
Hello Sylvia, Welcome to the largest vaccine information group in the world! :-) I am sure many others will also respond. We encourage you to read the following article and website: Antibody titers and immunity: Are they related? http://vaclib.org/basic/titers-immunity.htm And Ian Sinclair's excellent website VaccinationDebate.com archived here - http://vaclib.org/sites/debate/index.html A person who is truly interested in maintaining optimal health and wellness will not want circulating antibodies which amounts to foreign proteins in the blood which gives rise to allergies. Guest guest
HI: Thanks for all the resources everyone. The more I research the more I am convinced that vaccinations is just not good for the body. My son is doing okay, he has been better. He was doing very well from age 12 to about 19 with Naturopathic work and Neurodevelopment and then he regressed with a move from small town to large city and he never did come back up to the same level. He has had quite an issue with heavy metal toxicity -this is improving with work. We found a great Naturopathic doctor that he really likes and she has been getting his health at a better level. We are seeing a slow but progressive improvement with less anxiety so we are on the right track again. Small steps. Guest guest
Hi Winnie: It was a couple of things. While we had made great improvements in visual and auditory sensitivities they were still there while we lived in our small Rural Saskatchewan home-just not as visible. The move was to a large city-Calgary-and we are packed in like sardines here so very noisy and visually busy. We all noticed it and it tooks us a few years to really get use to the change in environment from that perspective. For my son of course it was much more dramatic. Then over time his metal loads increased. He did in door target shooting and loaded his own bullets so lead and antinomy off the charts. So we are working to clean that up. Those are the two things that I believed caused much of the regressions. We are seeing improvements. Always small steps. Sylvia From: wharrison@... Guest guest
Welcome Sylvia. I know a lot less than most of the people on here, but I always recommend the book "How to Raise a Healthy Child; In Spite of Your Doctor," by Dr. Mendelsohn. It's kind of old, but he seems to have a common sense that most doctors have lost today. And, he goes through each of the childhood diseases, what the symptoms and best treatment are (which usually does NOT involve going to a doctor), and he also discusses the risks of each vaccination.
