It might be better if you go slower. Like instead of dropping the afternoon

dose next week drop it every third day and try that for a bit Then go to

dropping that half pill every 2nd day and so on.

Your body needs to get in tune with the dosage going down and it takes time

to adapt.

This is good to hear, Janice. I hope you can keep going with it. I, as many

others, have tried to 'kick the habit' without success. My latest attempt

had me at 5 mg per day, and I stayed there for about 2 months. But I had to

go back up because the pain was getting too much even with the strong pain

meds. One time a few years ago, I was down to 2 mg per day, but I had so

much inflammation, my Rummy made me go back up to my normal 10 mg. This time

I'm adding Enbrel to give me a better chance.

I noticed you didn't say what strength your pills are. I'm hoping they are 1

mg, are they? Your body is supposed to take over the duty of manufacturing

cortisone that your body is lacking, but if you've taken them as long as I

have, 20 years, it may be slow to respond. It'll be tough for you anyhow,

and I wish you lots of luck and hope it's successful, determination makes a

difference, too.

I am also going down on my Prednisone daily intake. I am at 5 mg as of today-

down from 7.5 mgs. I notice more swelling, but not a lot more pain yet. I hope I

can at least keep it this low. So far, it has been tolerable. Dunno if y'all

remember, but I was on 40 mgs a day for over 5 months. The NP didn't know better

and it caused cataracts to start. So, 5 mgs is a real victory!

I hope it goes well for you Janice-- in SC

My pills are 5 mg. I have been on 2.5 mg. in the AM and 2.5mg. in the PM for a

week. I am now going to try 1/2 pill in the AM and 1/4 pill in the PM for a

week. If that goes okay, I'll try to drop the afternoon pill completely. I

haven't been on it that long, so I am hoping I can continue to work my way off.

Fingers crossed!! Thanks for the support!

Good luck to you, too, Chris. Prednisone is such a miracle in terms of symptom

relief. it is so unfortunate can have such bad side effects.
