Ken, you need to talk with her therapists and ask her for ideas-based on you

aunts mobility.  There are many things that are available to assist with

transfers-portable toilets with elevated seats or seats that can be adapted to

regular toilets, electric chairs that are made with lifts that will get people

almost into standing position.  Many times these can be paid for by insurance or

medicare if ordered by the doctor or therapists.  Also she may qualify for home

health.  They can usually suggest things that are a help with daily activities.

It's good that she has family she can rely on.  linda

Hi group, Ken here and I just joined this group. My 91 yo Aunt has

severe RA in her knees, hands, shoulders. I'm gonna have to be her

caretaker since she lives with my Ma. I am going to start splitting my

time with them and with my family. She is now in the hospital getting

therapy but her mobility is severly limited. How do you all cope with

this? She's too heavy (160lb) to lift if she can't help me. So

bathroom and other things are getting tough. Any ideas? I'll have

other questions and will search the forum but this is new to me and I

need ideas. Thanks,

Ken
