" The Seven Secrets of Slim People " is a book that I found and started studying when I was about 4 months post op. Since I had been either on a diet and losing weight, or between diets and gaining weight most of my adult life . . . I really didn't know how, what, or when to eat post op. I grazed my weight loss to a stop when I was 4 months post op . . . pretty scary. Anyhow the principals of 7 secrets are simple, natural and easier said than done . . . It is and isn't head work . . . for me, my obesity was caused by a combination of genetic propensity, poor eating habits, and diet rebound . . . 7 secrets helped with the last 2 components and helped me to maximize the physical changes of my WLS. The Seven Secrets are . . . 1) Listen to your body, not your mind. (Block out or forget childhood food messages, like dinner before dessert, cleaning your plate, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, ect.) 2) Eat with awareness and without judgment. (Really Feel how food makes you physically feel, rather than eating by the clock or a book, you'll be surprised how many times eating takes your energy rather than gives you energy!) 3) Eat only when physically hungry. (Always honor physical hunger, this keeps the metabolism revved up . . . non-hunger eating causes obesity! The trick is to learn what the signs of physical hunger are for you!) 4) Stop eating when your hunger is satisfied, not until you are full. (Eating is most satisfactory and enjoyable when you are eating what you want, just until you are no longer hungry, eating past that, food loses its flavor. Food doesn't taste better the more you eat of it, the opposite is true.) 5) Eat what you really want most, don't settle for less, because you think you should or shouldn't have something. (There is no satisfaction in not having something you really want . . . but take #1 and #6 into consideration as well. If you don't eat what you really want you will feel deprived and end up overeating because you won't be truly satisfied.) 6) Really notice how your body feels after eating. (Surprise! Some of those foods you thought you loved actually make you tired and less ready to take on life! Or you may notice you can only eat something's in combination or never on an empty stomach! ) 7) Honor your feelings rather than avoid them or lessen them with food. (Food doesn't make anything bad better, nor does it make anything good great!) These are very simple principals that slim people that don't fight the scale or struggle with their weight practice. Requires no special equipment other than a mind and a body and being willing to work hard and rethink your relationship with food . . . Without it, I don't believe that my WLS (prox. RNY) would have been more successful long term than anything else I ever did. Vicki

Remember, the thing that got me into so much trouble was the dynamic weight loss coupled with the loss of the electrolytes and the compounding malnutrition. I worry about peoples' mindsets, though, with the ed experience and all. I've learned to recognize the signals all too well, I guess... --El
