Hi Judy,

That post about your mother was the best medicine for me today, I laughed til I

cried.

Your sense of humour must get you through a lot. You have a lot to contend with,

with both you and your husband ill.

I just had to say thank you for cheering me up.

Many many best wishes to you

I'd rather see those darn commercials than hear my own mother (80 yrs old) say,

" Boy, your uncle really sufered with RA! I'm so glad you girls didn't get that! "

(It's a miracle she still is alive after that one

Or better yet, I have to drive 4 hours to see either of my grandchildren and

after a trip like that I'm bedridden for 3-4 days. When I told my mother that

she said, " Oh Honey, why is that? " (Yes, she is still alive, but at this point

she may not make her 81st birthday!) Needless to say, I screamed " Because I'm

F-----G sick! "

The problem is that if you " look well " and people see you on a " good day " , they

don't get how much you really suffer.

My husband has stage-4 liver disease from a horrible blood disease and he goes

crazy when people tell him, " Well, you LOOK healthy! "

I have gotten to the point where I no longer say I have RA. I tell them I have

an auto immune disease in addition to my spine falling apart. Since most people

haven't a clue what an auto immune disease is, IF they ask I normally say that

it is a disease similar to Lupus. (Which it is.) That is normally enough for

them, unless they are really knowledgeable in the field of medicine.

Also, since MTX is a form of chemo, I tell them that I'm taking steroids and a

form of chemo. By that time I've gone way over their head and they don't

question me anymore.

Mostly when I see those tv commercials on tv, I laugh because as soon as the

woman says she's feeling great the voice comes on and explains that it may help

you but it can also screw your body up so bad you will wish your were dead!

I especially love the Lyrica ad because that drug screwed my stomach up so bad

that I don't want it within a 5 mile radius of my home!

If those get you upset, my mail order pharmacy just sent me RX drugs for

Osteoporosis! !!! I don't have Osteoporosis! !!! It was a mistake and last

Monday the pharmacy said everything had been cleared up and all corrected. Then

on Tuesday they mailed it out to me. Yeppers! Everything was all straightened up

alright!!!!

I told the pharmacy that the next time they want to screw up a Rx make sure they

send me some good stuff that will make me happy and not this stupid Osteoporosis

crap! LOL!!!

Hugs to all,

Judy

Hi Jane

Pharmaceutical companies are not allowed to advertise on UK tv for that reason.

The " actors " would need to be real sufferers and with no make up, and would have

to show before and after the drug, and prove beyond a shadow of doubt their

authenticity and all their trial/research documents authenticated by an

independent body. They would also need to state that it isn't always

suitable/effective for everyone and the side effects.

In a nut shell no company would put themselves through that for any money. So

like you, no one believes the lies.

Best wishes

x

i'm so with you on the stupid commercials and clueless family members.

i'm one of the ones Lyrica has helped. But the Lyrica commercial where the woman

says, " but I'm not going to take this lying down " or something- her tone

insinuates FMS patients just lie down and let it take us over...that one pisses

me off. Not to mention the enbrel commercials that make it look like you do one

injection and immediately life is like an MGM musical, you're all dancing, and

flowers bloom, and rainbows come out, and music comes out of the sugar bowl on

your countertop.. ...yeah. obviously these actors do NOT have an autoimmune

disease. they're great meds but let's have a little reality check here.

Jane,

Not to say that the ads reflect the whole spectrum of realtiy, but all

the Enbrel and Humira commercials I have seen feature people who

really do have RA. Watch for when they do a close-up of their hands.

Jane, our society understands 'cancer' or any other REAL diseases but have

been conditioned to think as the company I worked for, " everybody has

arthritis " . That's why a lot of us believe RA should be called " Rheumatoid

Disease " . That takes the stigma of old-age out of the picture, but it will

never happen.
