Good

for you, Raina. I keep saying that, but I keep eating

even though I’m not hungry. I’ve been talking to myself lately

(nothing new, really) and I think IE is going to have to be about a few rules,

whether I like it or not. My pants are getting tighter. It’s just weird

that something that is supposed to be so natural is really hard for me to do.

Hi all!

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in awhile and I just wanted to say hi to

you all. I haven't been following IE like I should, but starting right

now, I will not eat unless I am hungry. I hope you all had a great

weekend!

Hi Raina :) For me that's one of the beauty's of IE - there is no

'set' way to go on your journey. And that journey could even have

pauses in it while you view the 'scenery' :) :) Good to hear you are

back with IE in focus for yourself. I know I have had to do IE

'piecemeal' - a baby step at a time with detours too. Coming here

helps keep me on track ;-)

Best to you - Katcha

HI Dianna, I do hope you can find a way to help yourself decide how to

incorporate IE into your life without having to 'force' yourself by

the weight of rules! Its amazing how when YOU decide that something is

a desirable way of going about doing it, then its not a 'rule' but

just a decision. One of the seductions of dieting is it having rules

which offer a strict guideline to measure yourself against. But those

guidelines are not 'natural' and definitely take your focus away from

what your own body is telling you. Maybe that's why IE is so difficult

for many of us - it seems like it should be so easy - just listen to

our own bodies, but that is hard to hear when the rest of the

(dieting) world is LOUDLY saying 'I am the expert " . Keep up the good

work and let awareness be a first step? BEST to you - Katcha

Thanks,

Katcha. I am very worried about making it a rule to

only eat when I’m hungry. I really rebel with rules. I will try to look

at it more like you said. Food tastes better if I wait until I’m hungry.

And I feel better physically when I eat less and eat when I’m hungry. I’ll

try some gentle persuasion. J

HI Betty. I don’t

keep a journal. I would say, do it only if you want to and if you find it

helpful.

I find the key for me to only eating when hungry is to have real meals

that are filling and satisfying. It is easy for diet mentality to creep

in and NOT eat enough, just to have a sandwich or just a snack, not

wanting to give myself permission to prepare myself a real meal. But

eating that way tends to make me " sort of " hungry every hour or so and

keeps me thinking about food all day.

A real meal that is filling and satisfying seems to make my body very

content for 4 or 5 hours and the idea of eating during those 4 or 5

hours has no appeal. I also find that ending the meal with a small

dessert also works well for my body. It gives me a more complete and

satisfied feeling. I find I end up eating a lot less that way rather

than having some candy or a snack an hour or so later, and then some

more, and then some more....

Of course, everyone has to experiment and find what works best for

their body.

Hi Dianna! I have to agree with you. This is the hardest thing I have

done. I keep thinking I can just eat when I want, but I really need to

wait until I'm hungry. But I'm working on it. I am totally with you

on the talking to myself thing. I do it all the time.

Hi Kat! It's great to hear from you. I have missed your posts. I am

going to start checking in more often. That's probably why I haven't

been focused on my IE.

Hi Dianna. I think that has been the problem for me, like I am trying

to make it a rule to eat when I am only hungry. I am trying to get it

in my head that it is not a rule. Hopefully we'll get this!

Hi ! I think it is awesome that you have figured out what works

best for you. I may have to try that and see if it will work for me.

" I am trying to get it in my head that it [to eat when I am only

hungry] is not a rule " - that sentence really stuck out to me. I

realized that eating when we are hungry IS the natural process. Our

body has internal cues to alert us of hunger. When we follow the

natural course (intuitive eating), we feel balanced. For me, it's

been about understanding what gets in the way of me following that

natural process...usually some emotional state like pain, boredom,

anxiety, or anger. By working with IE, I'm removing the obstacles to

going with that natural process or consciously choosing when I

override that natural process instead of being caught in a

compulsive habit of eating to satisfy non-hunger needs.

Latoya, I love the way your look at and explain things. A lot of the

'work' of re-gaining IE in our lives is about removing the 'blockage'

that we have built up which suppresses our natural internal

connections. IE really isn't about shedding weight so much as its

about eliminating our own barriers ;-)

"eating when we are hungry IS the natural process."I agree Latoya...to me it also means that *I* am the boss over food, not the other way around. I control what I eat. Re: Hi all!

Hi Latoya. Thanks for posting that. I am working on journaling my

emotions to see why I want to eat when I am not hungry. I have been

reading your posts and you have some wonderful insights and wisdom.

Thanks!
