So what's the torture, the bill or the device? Maybe both!

Stan,

Seattle, Sunny!

[ ] New torture device

Yesterday I went to the new Rheumy's office for MRI's of my hands. That plus

x-rays of the hands arae supposed to tell him how active the RA is. The

device is a portable MRI machine that has a recessed part in the center for

your hand and wrist and is adjustable for size or shape. There is a block of

foam that's strapped on top of the hand to help keep it from moving and a

recliner with ottoman. No tv or other intertainment, and each hand test is

one 8 minute and one 13 minute segment per hand. I didn't have much trouble

with the right hand, but when it came to the left, that's the one I ripped

bicep muscles out of, and it's still very badfor use and really painful most

of the time. Along with the lower back damage I've been suffering, it really

tortured me to stay in place that long. The left arm was almost useless and

I thought of having Betty drive us home, but I did manage to keep it

functional. As soon as I got home, I grabbed a Soma and Xanax and stretched

out in my recliner. I hope I can get along without doing that ever again!

It's no fun at all. Now all I have to do is get my hands x-rayed. The

hospital he sent me to wanted $646 for my co-pay for the 2 simple x-rays.

They are nuts to think I'd pay that much. It would mean $3200 total bill.

Something's wrong with that picture.

I wondered about the bill but didn't want to rock the boat. I was doing well

enough just getting out of there before more ideas were thought of. And you

don't have to start giving them any ideas. ;)

I try not to think about what it costs, currently I have insurance but when I

didn't, the costs floored me, especially for x-rays. Then you need go back to

the doctor to get something to relieve the stress and it costs even more!

Hi Dennis:

Yes, you sure were tortured!!! That must have been so bad for you.

I agree, these med. costs for meds., tests, etc. is so far out of

control. So hard for people who have no medical coverage. Something

needs to be done about this, that's for sure.

I hope you feel better soon, and never have to have that test repeated

again!!

Always nice to read your posts.

Hugs,

Barbara
