When are routine MRIs too many

My neuro wants to do Mris every time I start a relapse. This is often three

times per year. His treatment plan never changes because I am on IVIG PROTOCOL

every three weeks. I have another MRI scheduled for wed after a more severe

relapse than usual which started three weeks ago. I'm getting tired of two

hundred mile paratransit ride through the snow each way. Since nothing changes

in treatment except counting new lesions or one MRI when all my prev lesions AND

plaque had disappeared; I want to cancel this latest MRI. am I over reacting?

Despite my mostly natural protocol, My ms seems to have taken a progressive

relapsing protocol regardless. The ivig has sEemed to have kept relapsed brief

and somewhat mild for the most part.

I feel the same way about MRIs - especially when they have to inject the radio

active die that our liver has to remove from our blood.

It just seems ridiculous to eat and supplement so carefully and then go and

inject a radio active chemical into our blood.

I have had only three sets of MRIs in 3 years and the Dr. is never surprised at

what he sees and they have not resulted in changes in treatment - yet.

Communicate your MRI anxieties to your Dr. and maybe he will adjust his

procedure. If not, you may want to search for a Dr. that either shares or

respects and honors your feelings about it.

I would cancel mainly because of the gadolinium (contrast dye). What is he

expecting to see? I don't think an MRI should be routine.
