Hi ,

I was on Methotrexate for a while and all was good for several months.  But

then I had a reaction to it and started coughing.  Thought I had pneumonia

because the least little exertion would send me into a coughing fit....couldn't

catch my breath.  Long story short, it was the MTX and when I stopped it, my

breathing and lung function returned to normal.  I suffered no permanent lung

damage, thank God.

I know lots of folks take it w/o issue but it didn't work for me.  I don't

think there's any way of knowing how you'll react until you try it.

Best of luck to you.

Hi all. I have some questions for ya. I hardly ever post on here, but I read

alot...I went to my rheumatologist this morning and she said my inflammation

markers were way up so she is adding methotrexate and humira on to my existing

Prednisone and Plaquenil. Please anyone with experience with these meds let me

know its gonna be alright. The side effects I read about have me worried.

Thanks and God Bless

, just like everyone else, your side effects will vary. For me, MTX had

no effects, prednisone had small effect on my eyes at a large dose, Humira

put me in a flare like I haven't had since 1992, and Plaquenil put me in the

hospital leading in a roundabout way to open-heart surgery. You are not

going to know what a med will do for you without trying it. Other

experiences won't answer the question, only give you more doubts, something

you don't really need. Try each med and pay attention to your body, stop if

it's not right until you talk to your doctor. That's what I'd do.

I've been on methotrexate 25 years with a slight rise in my liver enzymes

only once, and no other ill effects. It can make you queasy but if it is

injected that effect is much more minor so I do that and take folic acid (a

cheap vitamin).

I'm almost up to 3 years on Humira and same with that . All good. In fact

the deterioration in my foot over the last 3-4 years is almost nil

good luck, I was on mtx for about 8 months and my liver enzymes started

creeping up, stayed the same for awhile and started going high and fast this

time, make long story short, it was damaging my liver and now my rheumy cant

treat my RA as aggressively as he wants to because I cant do mtx or

anything like it.
