Guest guest
Tanif,Thanks so much for posting this link to Joy Nash's video. I also watched the 2 sequels and the interview with Joy, Bliss, and Meme Roth on YouTube. Apparently, her video was a phenomenon last year and I missed it. I throughly enjoyed watching the videos. We had a brief thread about fat acceptance some weeks ago. I've been wanting to explore that topic more in my own life...because I know that I have fat judgement/criticism within me. While I wholeheartedly agree with Joy's videos, I do associate obesity with dealing with pain and imbalance. In the joint interview, Bliss brought up some great points about the whole obesity epidemic being a fallacy...that the true issue is about our relationship with nutrition and movement.[hoorah for IE]..and that you can't judge someone's relationship with nutrition and movement by their size alone...there's an assumption that if everyone gets "proper" amounts of movement and eats "right"...then they'll be slim/thin... exercises 10 hours a week, eats a "healthy" diet and still manages to be classified as "morbidly obese" according to BMI!On the other hand, listening to MeMe Roth, with the National Action Against Obesity (NAAO) rant made me feel physically ill. She turned to Joy and said that she was "concerned" about Joy's weight leading to long-term health issues and then later in the segment she spoke about how she didn't want her hard earned money she saved to put her children through college and to support her family to be used to pay for the billion dollars of healthcare that overweight people would create [and this statement was greeted by applause from the audience]...while when the host introduced Joy, a good deal of the audience boo'd her! Wow. I think that Meme Roth's first statement about being concerned about Joy's weight was actually a nice mask for the true reason which she communicated later. I think that Joy's videos has been and is a great way to really expose the true issues. I am so grateful everyday for IE and being able step outside of the fat/thin struggle. L.
