I fully agree there. They should at least be able to know the gist of what

you are talking about so they can refer you to the proper person who can

help you.

I find most people answering these phones are dumber than sticks. Aside from not

knowing the basic terminology about the place where they are employed, they

cannot spell even the simplest of names. My last name is , I live on

Fairchild St in Westland.........These are all very simple words that I have to

continually spell out for people. If I had some strange variation of the word,

I'd tell them. Wonder how they'd do on LOL! Doug

Honestly, everyone who works in the medical field ought to have some experience

with

medical terminology, specifically the terminology used in the office they're

working in.

However... having worked as a medical receptionist in several offices and

experiencing the

training (or lack thereof) that most people receive, I'm not surprised that the

front desk

personnel has no idea what I'm talking about half the time. Besides,

receptionists get paid

crappy money. You certainly can't expect to reach a rocket scientist at most

front desks

because no one who knows that much is content to work for such lousy pay.

How are his grades? Does he do his work on time? Do you have to stay

on his case to get his homework done? Is the teacher boring? Why if

he gets points for good behavior is she complaining?

I ask this because my friend had this problem with her son, but his

grades were all 99 averages. He was bored! They advanced him to the

next grade, and things are wonderful now.

Maybe your son is feeling better since IVIG and picking things up

quicker than other students. If he doesn't have a problem at home

with completing tasks and his grades are good, I wouldn't worry. I

would get your doctor's notes, as well as the other teacher's notes.

Ask if her comments are being placed on his record. If so, I would

ask that the doctor's notes be placed in there also.

Just my opinion. Good luck,

Exactly! His work is getting done correctly, he's getting quizzed

each week and getting 100%, his standardized tests from Kgn last

year are all 96-99th percentile. But he's young-just turned 6-and a

boy, so it's assumed that he too young, too hyper, etc. Those are

good points-I do wonder if they are going in his record. I'll find

out, and I know his doc will provide what ever we need. Thanks for

the reassurance! Janet

I remember last year when I had a conference with 's 5th grade

teachers. He has gotten A's in conduct his whole life-never a

discipline problem. They told me that for the first time he was

acting up in class and talking more. I got excited and

said, " AMEN!!!! " Not the response they expected. Of course after I

explained that for 11 years he had not felt well enough, nor did he

have the energy, to get in trouble-they understood. ;0)I just keep

reminding myself of that when he picks on his sister! Good luck!

For someone to be diagnosed as ADHD, the hyperactivity and attention issues have

to be across more then one area....IE school and home. We had the opposite

problem with igh...the school refused to see her issues...

Also, there are great differences in terms of expections for " attending " by

teachers...When igh was in preschool, her goals on her IEP were for

attending for 15 minutes...and she was only attending 5-7 minutes...so at that

point I sought a neuropsych eval to determine her cognitive functioning....Then

when she got into the kindergarten program, the " new teacher " said her

attending was fine...

I personally would think it's the teacher....or that something is going on in

school...You know if you have a kid that doesn't pay attention at home.

" igh has since been diagnosed as Central Auditory Processing disorder....and

can " look " completely unfocused due to those issues..but is paying as much

attention as she can and typically does well.

Hope that helps..

When she brings up the focus issue at the conference I would say something very

blunt such as, " before we go any further, you should know that we are not

medicating our child and his doctors agree. "

Half of these teachers just want to sedate the boys so that they don't behave

like normal boys during class. IMO, 1/2 day kindergarten should start at about

age 7 for boys. If that were the case, they'd all be successful and none of

them would start out their education on meds.

We go to a charter with my kids and we still have 504's for the

medical---are you guys in MI? Im thinking so but could be wrong:)

could it be that he is tired from illness and its hard for him to

focus bc of that? do YOU see a problem with him focusing? To be ADHD,

its supposed to be " across the board " , meaning, the same problem would

be at home as it is at school. If it seems like he really is " off

task " have other factors been ruled out, like hearing and vision?

I think, if it were me, and Ive done this kind of thing before, if the

teacher wont lay off, Id get a letter from his dr stating he has been

looked at and DOES NOT have ADHD, and then copy the letter, give it to

the principal and teacher. And tell the teacher you are glad she is

paying so much attention to your child, and you understand her

concern, but the problem is NOT ADHD, so please stop writing comments

about it. If she really wants to help your son, she should be willing

to explore other possibilities.

---LOL! I had to laugh at this. My 7 yr old son jsut started IVIG last

Feb(his siblings had been on it for nearly a yr by then). Donovan was

ALWAYS tired, laying down, quiet, well behaved. After his first

infusion, we were like.......WHO IS THIS KID? LOL!! he was up and

running, getting into trouble, being sneaky......it was laughable, to

us, bc for the first time ever,he had the energy to be like that. And

I really enjoyed watching it.

Yesterday, I went out w/ my cousin. I am sure you guys have heard this before

and it just gets on my nerves. She was telling me that my aunt has RA and she

is having surgery on her hand. I have had friends tell me that they have RA and

each and every single one of them are talking about OA.

Even though I try to educate friends and family that there are different types

Sorry, it got on my nerves and I had to share because I am tired of people

How about that one commercial on TV for Lyrica (fibromyalgia) where the woman

says " I'm not one to just lie down and give up. " Everytime I see that woman's

face and I know that commercial is coming, I want to grab her through the TV

screen and yell " HOW DARE YOU!?!?!! " Everyone thinks these auto-immune

disorders are " simple " to treat. HA!!! I dare any of them to live in our bodies

for just one day - they'd never make it!!

Thanks for bringing this up, . I've been wanting to vent about that for a

while now.....Doreen :)

I have seen some people in really bad shape from osteoarthritis. They

can't just take an OTC pill and get relief. I imagine they are as

upset with those ads as y'all are.
