Guest guest
I had a mom say to me today (I work with her foster child) that her ultrasound showed no signs of Down syndrome...that she was soooo relieved that she wasn't having a child with THOSE issues. I hated to shoot her down...I had extended ultrasounds done 2 times a week from my 16th week on (for other issues). These didn't show any concerns at all. But Karrie sure has ds!!! Guest guest
Gee some people are so naïve - okay so the ultrasound didn't show DS, and we all know that ultrasounds are not 100% accurate. The thing is any baby can be born with issues of some kind and some that are not noticeable to older. I Except for the karate kicks on the cat - sounds like our house! I do hope the cat fought back - ours does occasionally but usually waits growling and hissing for someone to rescue him - why doesn't he fight back 'cause he will get hit. Trent for some strange reason - likes taking the cat to the toilet with him - really can't figure that one out. Though must admit he very seldom over pours when pouring drink, gets it to the very top of the glass but he will pour everyone else a drink and in their favorite glass. I have an extremely large glass I use for drinking water - that frequently gets filled to the top with soft drink. I use to have a very large wine glass which I used for water - well know he gets a wine glass out for any alcoholic drink. What would we do without them - actually wouldn't life be boring without any of our children - we may be richer financially but far poorer for love/insight/funny stories/company. Guest guest
Karrie doesn't actually kick the cat...she just kicks near him. Oreo, gentle guy that he is, lies there, watching her adoringly (is that a word?). This cat used to lay on the floor facing Karrie and he would pet her face! He has never scratched her. I don't think he can hiss, we have never heard him hiss or growl and he's going to be 9 this summer. He was dumped at our house at the age of 4 weeks. Karrie doesn't take Oreo in the bathroom. She did try to stuff him in her bookbag the other day to take him to school. Guest guest
Ann, I went through a similar incident with Nic's Godmother, no less. She had a miscarriage and said to me that she'd rather have a miscarriage than a child with " issues " . That was very hurtful. I mentioned what she said to a mutual friend and she told her how insensitive she was. The Godmother then called me to apologize and said she doesn't see Nic as having a disability, Nic is just Nic. So Maybe the case is the same for your friend. Maybe she just sees Amelia as Amelia and forgets she has a genetic difference. Honestly if they are offended and don't stay friends with you...they weren't worth being friendly with in the first place, IMO. Lori rant Well I guess I've made some of the members of my playgroup uncomfortable. They are totally fine w/me not vaccinating , and her being around their kids. Guest guest
Yes, this is the bad part about choosing not to vaccinate your child/children. My own mother could not understand my reasoning for not wanting my daughter to get her shots although I tried to explain- she is like all the others out there who are " clueless " and thinks that " if the doctor says they are good for you, then they MUST be because a doctor knows everything! " ...Nope...I don't think so. I took my daughter to her check-up just yesterday, with plans to refuse any shots they wanted to give. What makes me mad is that the doctor/nurse just come in the room and say " If you'll lay her on the table I will give her her shot " ...What happened to asking me first???!!! Why is there no " Mrs. --, would you like for your daughter to have this shot? " but they just walk on in ready to stick her without questioning me if I even wanted it to begin with!!! GGGRRRR!!! And then, when I tell the doctor that I don't think I want the shots, he basically bullies me into getting them by making me feel like I would be a terrible mom if something happened to her because I chose to not get the shots. And he also lets me know that if I DON'T get the shots, he will not be able to see her anymore because he doesn't want an unvaccinated child in his clinic near other children!! I'm so caught between the two...If she gets her shots and something happens to her, I would want to die! I would feel that it was MY fault...But if she doesn't get her shots and something happens to her, I would still want to die and EVERYBODY would feel that it was MY fault because I was already " warned " that I was " putting her at risk " ....What to do??? All my mom could say was " I guess it's like the saying goes- since there's a risk either way- 'Damned if I do, damned if I don't' " I'm so scared of making the wrong decision either way and hurting my precious baby!! Would it be ok to choose no more vaccinations past age 1 since there is so much pressure right now to " build her immune system " since she's only a few weeks old??? Would stopping vaccinations after one year be better than continuing??? Kellie mensrea320@... wrote: Well I guess I've made some of the members of my playgroup uncomfortable. Guest guest
They're probably nervous as the info you gave them made them feel a bit insecure in their own decision, and they don't like being reminded of it. Luckily they accept you though as where I am unless you're in an alternative group there's still a lot of negativity publicly about not vaccinating and ignorance about the facts, as well as generally about home births and pre natal care, the whole lot. Choice is just really a word in a leaflet somewhere and you have to opt out of everything rather than opt in and it is made difficult for you. Even though it's not law, the law interferes so much that it almost, and there's constant pressure through various services you can't get away from and then from " friends " and family. there's so much press about dangers that many parents are very extreme pro vaccine which is difficult. They must have no confidence in their own child's vaccine at all. At the end of the day, you can make new baby friends if you really have to. They should respect your opinions enough for you to give information relating to your own choices when asked, without getting all defensive about it. Hopefully they'll see how healthy your child is in future and might even rethink themselves for future shots and not group off together. I have had so many people come up to me out of the blue and say to me that there is something different about . One thing they accused me of is comparing to other kids in the group. So they cannot objectively look at her in any way, but that might be comparing her. I like to " compare notes " w/other moms to see what works for them and how they do things. Apparently that is wrong. This mom stated her son has a speech delay, but it has nothing to do w/his diet or vaccines. That is so funny to me. How does she know that? Guest guest
Hi Holly, I'm sure that can be frustrating. Makes me realize how fortunate I am to be in the playgroup I'm now currently in. Another mom and I formed a *progressive* playgroup for us " Other Mothers " who didn't feel like we fit in with the mainstream, conventional playgroups. I never felt comfortable posting messages on that message board about this topic because I felt outnumbered and knew I would be criticized simply because they did not know better. In the previous playgroup we were in, when a 12M old boy had a terrible reaction to the MMR vaccine and his mom posted photos of him, I kindly asked her if she was going to continue getting vaccines and even if select or delaying vaccines was an option, and she quickly shot back that she was pro-vax and did not want to get into a controversial discussion, and if she had to do it again, she would have him get the MMR vaccine again. So, that was that. When we formed this new playgroup all these " alternative " , progressive moms came out of the woodwork and began to join and we even got some members from that other group. Even though not everybody is one the same side of the vaccine debate (however, most moms in this group don't vaccinate), everyone respects each other, and I'm fortunate to finally have found my tribe. I hope you find yours too. T. > > Well I guess I've made some of the members of my playgroup uncomfortable. > They are totally fine w/me not vaccinating , and her being around their > kids. Guest guest
Isn't it the best!! Another mom and I are trying to start one in our area (Central Bucks County, PA), but there are 2 other chapters pretty close (lower Bucks and Mercer county NJ) that we attend. I love my La Leche League meetings, too, DGMW, but they really do focus mainly on breastfeeding issues AISB, and I needed a place that had a broader focus. I recommend HMN to every mom who lives an " Alternative " lifestyle. The more like minds congregate the more thinking changes as a whole. Hopefully soon the we will be the mainstream and the old way of thinking will be the alternative. Huff " Ohh! I love the Holistic Moms Network! Guest guest
Something that I haven't heard much discussion of, but have often wondered: For those kids who don't have obvious vaccine injuries as many of ours do, what consequences will they face due to their high levels of mercury exposure health-wise down the road? Will we see cancer at a young age? MS? Other demyelinating diseases? Parkinson's? A rash of " mental illnesses " ? In my opinion, NO ONE can be be exposed to such high levels of toxins (excreters or not) and come out unscathed without radical health intervention. As hard as it is for our kids, I am also very concerned for the other children born in these last 15 years, and the long- term implications for what has been done to them. And I don't even have any NT kids! > > What would happen if you exposed a generation of American infants to > Thimerosal (ethylmercury) via multiple infant vaccines from about > 1988 to 2002? Guest guest
-- for reasons you just state, why are we not putting thimersol/vaccines under the umbrella of environmental toxins that we refuse to live with any long?????? Deidre Imus (and more) who are more all-encompassing of environmental toxins fight fame are our leaders and vaccine toxins and viruses should be just one fight among ALL of it (pesticides, cleaning supplies in schools and stores -- everywhere that we are forced to live).I recently called corporate Target to complain that the clothes that I purchsed wreaked of Febreeze and that it appeared to me that since I went back to the store and smelled this on every rack of clothes that they were fogging the store with this stuff. I told that that 2/3 of the population is chemically sensitive and some don't even know it and that this has to stop. I asked for the names of all of the clothes manufacturers that they deal with. She said she has NEVER had a complaint like this before. I say -- let's all call corporate and start at this level. Just because you don't have a runny nose from smelling their clothes, does not mean the inflammatory damage is not being done to you internally (learned that from a DAN conference).Let's all start complaining. There are 2,000 some people on this listserve. We could do some damage in this area. Every week, someone pick and issue of toxicity and let's get to work. Guest guest
I so identify with your rant; and I am so sorry that you have to endure this pain and then have that horrible day on top of it. No ones sympathy will reduce the pain, or the grief at being ignored by family, but understand that I and others on this list do sympathize. I have had a similar problem until recently. Two years of diagnosis, tests, trying this drug or that, weird uncomfortable side effects, not to mention the constant pain. I cried more in this two years than I have cried in all my entire life total...I'm 65 now. Frustrated and depressed. I just now MAY have found the drug combination that will make life livable again...Humira, Methotrexate, and Lyrica. After reading this list I have come to understand that for each one of us a different combination of drugs is the answer. Please don't give up on trying new remedies, I hope you will finally find ones that answer for you. There are many drugs out there, and I guess that is good news. The industry is taking RA seriously and is working on developing new medications all the time. Best wishes Joan in Fair Oaks
Guest guest
Hugs, . I'm so sorry to hear if your pain and those terrible accidents, not to mention the fire. People can be so thoughtless. My husband was hit by an uninsured driver this week. He's fine but it's a reminder of how things can change so quickly. Distracted driving is a huge problem these days. What is the treatment plan for you after remicaide? When will I find the right medication to manage through this horrific desease that riddles my body full of pain. There isn't enough tramadol and percocet in this world to get rid of it. The remicade which I hope would work seems to be failing just like all the other meds I have been on over the years. Day after day I try to live my life and the pain is there no matter what I do. I work as much as I can and feel like the more I work the more pain I am in. This time around its my hands and wrists. The only way I could type this was with the aid of my wrist braces that I have to wear sometimes to give them a break from the day in and day out pain that I live in them. I have had a bad day. My neighbors are stupid, the boy next door decided to heat some grease up to cook chicken nuggets and caught the damn house on fire. The people I live with who I thought were suppose to be my family forgot about getting me out. I was asleep in my room in the basement. kinda messed up isn't. The only thing he could say to me was, oh I thought you were at work. My truck was sitting right there in front of the house, how the heck could he miss it. On my way to get my daughter from school today, I saw a tanker truck crush an suv on the drivers side. The driver instantly died, I travel that stretch of road daily and it scared me. Then later on this evening I saw a car run over a motorcycle and the driver thrown into the middle of the highway where a tractor trailer ran him over. so yeah bad day today really bad day.
