Guest guest
When I told my friend that my severe body aches could be RA and that I am having tests and scared about it, she replied, " Oh, I have had that for years. My joints ache all the time. " I just know she has not been in the kind of pain that this type produces. If she was, she would have been complaining a lot more about her aches. I don't mean to seem harsh either. My friend does have other non-joint related issues and I know she has severe pain often too. Just not the kind of joint pain I have been in. I really think that they mean well, they just don't understand about this disease. They just don't really know how much it hurts and affects us. It makes me upset too. And also when my family says they are tired of hearing me complain all the time. Guess we will have to start informing them more because there is so much confusion in the general public about the wear and tear type (osteo) and the autoimmune type (Rheum). Not to say that the people with osteo are not in pain, it is just that ours seems to more shocking to the system, more sudden, and more destructive. Even though I have not been diagnosed, I am pretty certain this is what is wrong with me. Mostly because the location of my pain, sudden onset, and the fact that it comes and goes. I am with you on the irritation with the confusion. I for one plan to educate those around me once I have a final confirmation of RA. Hope you are well and take care. Guest guest
Hi Susie, Think most people assume it's " only arthritis " . My way round that is not to say I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, but that I have Rheumatoid Disease. When you tell people it affects organs,as well as joints, tendons etc, they see it in a different light. A lot of people with this disease don't understand exactly what it entails so it's understandible people assume it's " just " arthritis. Hope that helps. Love and best wishes x From: susiestepro <susiestepro@...> Subject: [ ] , I know what you mean Date: Monday, 23 March, 2009, 4:59 AM When I told my friend that my severe body aches could be RA and that I am having tests and scared about it, she replied, " Oh, I have had that for years. Guest guest
I wish there was another name for RA because so many people just hear 'arthritis' and say " Oh, I take this OTC medicine and it works for me! " I'm also tired of being told about elimination diets, detox diets, etc.that will 'cure' my joints. My rheumy says there was a proposal a few years ago to change the name of RA to Massive joint deterioration syndrome or MJDS, but it didn't stick. (or maybe it was disease or disorder.cant' remember) Many spoons to all. Internal Virus Database is out of date.
