Guest guest
Debbie, I feel similarly. Right now my favorite foods are donuts, guacamole and salsa w/ tortilla chips, and potatoes boiled w/ olive oil and salt and pepper. Not very balanced but I am determined not to eat anything I don't really like. Topaz Debbie Gillette wrote: > > > Hello... > > I am having trouble liking anything!! Guest guest
After I started intuitive eating, I felt like I had come down to Earth from a different planet or something. I had NO idea what kind of food I liked! Like you, once I gave myself permission to eat junk food, free of guilt, I discovered I didn't care for the taste or the way it made me feel. I was also sick to death of eating grilled beef, fish, or chicken with a potato and veggie because that was my diet way of eating. All my life adult life it has been one extreme or the other - donuts, pizza, ice cream, cake, or lean protein, veggie, and complex carb. I have found it is fun to experiment at restaurants, ordering a few items from the appetizer menu for my dinner. This way I can experience lots of different foods for not too much money and discover what I truly DO enjoy eating at this point in my life. I am not so creative at home, unfortunately, but I hope eventually I will learn how to cook some of the foods I find I am enjoying. It seems strange at the age of 55 to just be learning what it is I like to eat!
Guest guest
Debbie, I was reminded of something by your distinction between " junk food " and " nutritious food. " I continue to find myself placing certain foods into these two categories in my mind too. Through practicing IE, I can now say that a donut and a carrot both fall into the food category and provide me energy...although my body responds differently to them. Reading Katcha's perspective on external [dieting] dictates versus INternal directing has been really helpful for me. I can see myself rebelling against foods labeled as " nutritious. " " Nutritious " is an external dictate...someone somewhere has decided that foods like fruits and vegetables are " nutritious " , therefore we must eat them, and most people feel obligated to go along with this belief. " Nutritious " is a made up label pointing to something more important. ..how food affects our bodies and therefore our lives. With a focus on intuitive eating or internal directing, we can all experiment with what foods taste good, provide us pleasure, make us feel weaker, or make us feel stronger, etc. We can ask ourselves do we want to eat foods that are crunchy, creamy, hot or cold...sweet or sour...it's all just food. I'm confident that you'll discover more foods that interest you in time...veggies tasting better to you is just one indicator that things are changing. Do you remember liking any foods when you were young? Maybe retracing your food preferences over time might be helpful. Do you like the smell of certain foods...getting different senses involved has been helpful to me. Latoya:) Practicing IE since Jan '08. > > Hello... > I am having trouble liking anything!! I never want anything enough to eat it, so I go day by day eating whatever until I am full. I have been working on IE for about a year. I no longer crave fast food at lunch in fact I don't like the taste of it at all. I am tired of sandwiches and I haven't gained a love for nutritious food yet so I feel like I am stuck in the middle with nothing to enjoy eating. I will say that the last couple of months vege's have tasted better and I have even found that I have craved them a few times. I feel very frustrated like I will never like food again. The only explanation I have is that I have eaten junk food for so long and now that I have given myself permission to eat it I have found I don't really like it and since I have eaten junk food for so long I don't really like nutritious food. Is anybody or has anybody gone through this???? Thanks!! Debbie >
