Guest guest
How frightening.....It is so scary when our bodies rebel against us. I am glad you were not alone. I will send positive thoughts and pray they find the reason for your medical nightmare. Raniolo From: BadKneesDebs@... <BadKneesDebs@...> Subject: Re: [ ] Re: RA, my Symptoms and the Hospital Date: Tuesday, June 30, 2009, 8:45 AM Well friends I have done it again! Thursday AM while at home, I started having severe chills (4 blankets, & no AC in FL and still freezing). My daughter took my temperature registered at 105 and I had the ambulance called stat. When I got to the ER, I still had the same sypmtoms at the hospital along with a wihte count of 14,000. Within 2 hours my heart rate plummeted to 80 and I had won a free trip to the ICU as their fears were that I was going to have cardiac arrest. With a bolous of saline and some Vancomycin, things seemed to settled down a bit. I wss sent home yesterday with a normal temp, somewhat normal BP and no idea as to what had happened!!!! !!!!I am soooooooo scared, I can't sleep, can't eat. The MD's possible thoughts are a possible UTI (culture never grew), possible change in my RA status (whatever that means) or the BEST one, I had some of the signs and symptoms of a PE). I told the hospitalist that I was on Coumadin and they had put a fiilter in about 2 months ago. Bottom line is that they have NO idea what happened to me and that it probably WILL happen again without any warning!!! I think this has got to be about the worse run inn with the medical field to date. I still have some SOB and some other symptoms left, but nothing to really keep me inpatient. Any thoughts, similiar episodes and just anything that would point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Every time something happens, I seem to think nothing can top this......WRONG! Thanks dear firends for at least reading about me. Dear friends you are never far my thoughts and prayers even though I can't post as often as I wish. Gentle, tender, angel hugs from HOT, HOT FL.......... ......... ......... ......... .......to all of you! Debs in So FL

Guest guest
Good grief, Debs!! What part of FL do you live in? Perhaps you should consider either of the hospitals in Gainseville or ville (Mayo) or another major medical center in your area. These are life threatening episodes and apparently the idiots in your area are leaning too hard on their idiopathic diagnosis' that basically amount to nothing. With a fever that high and a wbc count that high, something should have shown up - but it sounds like they shot themselves in the foot with the Vancomycin IV - as far as being able to find the exact cause. Its understandable that a culture would never grow because they hit you hard with that antibiotic, but it seemed like you were in such a serious state that they had to do something quick. How long did you receive the Vancomycin for? Did they send you home with antibiotics? I would think that you should not have another episode like that unless they didn't completely kill off whatever bacteria caused all of this to begin with. If you are not comfortable with the way you are receiving treatment, definitely seek out new doctors, hospitals or clinics. Are you scheduled for a follow up with your primary care doctor? Please don't ignore any symptoms that you might be experiencing. It sounds like your health takes a nose dive quickly. My prayers are with you - that you will feel better soon. Keep us posted. We care.....Doreen > > > Well friends I have done it again! Thursday AM while at home, I > started having severe chills (4 blankets, & no AC in FL and still > freezing). Guest guest
Debs in Fl, Do you think the comment about PE could be Pleural Effusion? If yes, below is a link that talks about it. I had the pleural effusion last year. Was hospitalized 4 days. Left hospital not knowing what caused it and wheather or not I would get it again. So I can understand part of what you are going thru. http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/pleural_effusion/ts_overview.aspx Hope your feeling better soon.
