Guest guest
What purpose do the cerebellar tonsils serve? Why do only some neurosurgeons shrink them when they do decompressions and others do not? Does this make the surgery more dangerous since the actual brain tissue is involved rather than when they are left intact? I fully understand that they are usually cauterized but sometimes although rarely they are cut. Any help or ideas on all this is deeply appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
Dr. Batzdorf believes they serve no useful purpose. He shrinks them because they are often part of the cause of the CSF flow restriction. This does not make the surgery more dangerous.
