Different Reactions to Different Emotions?

Did some of you notice that you react in different ways to different

emotions?

Assuming that " emotional overeaters " always eat when having to deal with

uncomfortable emotions I'm still always kind of surprised that I react

to specific emotions with " not-eating " .

Now some might say that I'm still using food in some way to cope (and I

think this is right) but I think of it as kind of interesting.

Yes, I hate that stereotype " once an overeater -> always an overeater

with only one possible reaction to emotions " .

Hi S.,

Yes, I have noticed that, reacting in different ways to different

emotions. I know that real sadness shut my appetite, boredom, well,

leads me to eat salty things, exhaustion and fatigue, carbs, and many

times, I eat carbs instead of taking a nap, allowing myself to take a

nap...

I like what you said: " Now some might say that I'm still using food in

some way to cope (and I think this is right) but I think of it as kind

of interesting. " I think that developing a non-jugmental attitude like

this is key to feeling great. I am trying to use that food

anthropologist that Tribole mention in her book. It is very

helpful. I also discovered that most of my emotional eating was in a

way or another a way to take care of myself. A couple days ago,I was

able to discover the emotion and to adress it with the right thing. I

am a writer (french) and I felt very deprived of not having a decent

office, putting other people needs before mine, especially my 4 years

old, and I always felt frustrated and deprived living in my very old

and ugly student furniture. Yesterday, dh and I went to Ikea and I got

myself a nice desk and a nice bookshelf and a rug, and I will organize

my office into a nice, relaxing, pleasant place. This is a first for

me, and believe that Ie lead me there, adressing the right need with

the right thing.

Take care,

Nat

That is wonderful Nat. Reading posts like yours nearly brings tears to

my eyes because its such an accomplishment for YOU, a valid person :) :)

Good job! And I bet your writing space can now support you better as

well as be a place you enjoy being in.

Somehow this makes me think that I should go to the library to study.

The house is a mess and I feel like I don't have working space. Alas,

it's quite a trip to the library at my university and the dog would be

alone all day again. :-/
