" From published case reports and cases series, it has been suggested that 5-HT2A-blocking antidepressant drugs may cause joint disorders, " Dr. Anders Kling, of University Hospital, Umea, Sweden, and colleagues write. " These reports could be a signal of a true adverse drug reaction (ADR), but could also simply be a result of coincidence because arthritis and arthralgia, even without established rheumatic disease, are common in general populations. " In a retrospective study, the researchers examined whether the use of 5-HT2A-blocking atypical antidepressants is associated with joint disorders. The authors assessed reports of ADRs concerning joint disorders that were suspected to be linked to use of any of three 5-HT2A-blocking atypical antidepressants (mianserin, mirtazapine, and nefazodone). **************************************** Read the full article here: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/712311 Not an MD
