Guest guest
..I had taken plaquinel a long time ago with no prpblem and then about 3 years ago, my rheumy decided to put me on it again. I developed small red pin point dots all over. It started on my stomach and went up and down from there. I ended up getting a steroid injection and used benadryl and zyrtec for about a week or more. No fun and it itched so he put me on Arava. It caused a lot of stomach problems so he lowered the dosage but then I started having severe hair loss so now I am only on prednisone and enbrel..but enbrel is great. Been on it since 2005. So far, so good. Hugs..a I started taking the plaqunil if spelled right about a week ago. I had to stop taking it, I broke out in hives and well my head itched and itched and itched so badly at work I wanted to pull my hair out my head at work. on top of that I was hurting more while on it then off of it. So I can't take that one or MTX so what else is left?

Guest guest
Hi - I'm sorry to hear you aren't having much luck with the DMARD's so far. I can't remember why you can't take the MTX, but have you tried the injections? If it was stomach related, the injections are so much easier as it bypasses that altogether. I wasn't able to take Plaquenil either - it made my eyesight all blurry. Have they tried Sulfaslazine yet? This is definitely not the end of the road here. There are so many other medications out there and unfortunately it is all a trial and error thing. Please don't give up - there is a combo out there that will be good for you. This site has a bunch of medications listed specifically for RA. I hope it gives you some idea of the choices we have: http://www.arthritistoday.org/treatments/drug-guide/types-of-drugs/index.php Please keep us posted.
