Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I can only talk from my own experience. I have been getting steroid injections intra muscular for the past 12 years. I was putting on that much weight that I went from having one every month as nothing else was working, to now I limit myself to one every 3 months and only if I really need it. The drug goes through your body when you have the injection in your hip( my whole body is affected with RA) but when you have the drug injected locally ie your neck, that's the area which will benefit the most. Like you it affects my mood, as my family will testify. I have only had oral steroids about a year ago when I had Bells Palsy(facial paralysis and distortion). I was scaring people with my contorted face and dribbling constantly lol. Bells Palsy does nothing for your self confidence. When my hubby took me out in my wheelchair, people would talk to him, they must have thought I was Quasimodo or something!!!!! I hope your injection does the trick for you on Tuesday. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes x From: giambifan2001 <giambifan2001@...> Subject: [ ] steroid injections in neck Date: Saturday, 28 March, 2009, 12:02 PM Hi, I am going to get a steroid injection into my neck on Tuesday due to my herniated disc problems and would like to know if this would affect you like oral steroids do.I was on the steroid pills once and I gained weight and was the wicked witch of the west(or in my case the northeast!)Does the medication only stay where they inject it or does it go into your bloodstream? If this doesnt work, I wont go for another. My neurologist said eventually I will just need surgery anyway. Thanks so much for any input. Guest guest
Heidi, I can only speak for my own experience with cortisone injections on each side of, I believe, C3 and C4, and they do relieve the pain for a while, but the long term effects, to me, are not worth it, and I will not get another. My current rheumatoligist said she would never give a cortisone shot in my neck because of the long term effects. Steriods, to me, are bad news. I have had several cortisone shots and was prescribed prednisone, but being the stubborn person I am, I have went against my doctor's wishes, and have declined steriod use for my treatment with RA. I wish you the best, and hope things get better for you. Take care, From: giambifan2001 <giambifan2001> Subject: [ ] steroid injections in neck @gro ups.com Date: Saturday, 28 March, 2009, 12:02 PM Hi, I am going to get a steroid injection into my neck on Tuesday due to my herniated disc problems and would like to know if this would affect you like oral steroids do.I was on the steroid pills once and I gained weight and was the wicked witch of the west(or in my case the northeast!)Does the medication only stay where they inject it or does it go into your bloodstream? Guest guest
Hi Heidi I had a steroid injection in my hip joint 3 weks ago. In 3 days after, I put on 5 pounds - and I promise I didn't pig out too much on chocolate! It did improve the amount of pain that I was in, so I think it was probably worth it. Good luck with the injection, Elaine in the UK [ ] steroid injections in neck Hi, I am going to get a steroid injection into my neck on Tuesday due to my herniated disc problems and would like to know if this would affect you like oral steroids do.I was on the steroid pills once and I gained weight and was the wicked witch of the west(or in my case the northeast!)Does the medication only stay where they inject it or does it go into your bloodstream? Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I am sorry you are having to go through this steroid injection. I have had 2 steroid injections into my neck. This was after my 2nd neck surgery though. It all started with a herniated disc so bad that the surgeon saw me and admitted me on the spot for emergency surgery. That was a discectomy. Two years later I was back for a fusion at c5/6. Within a year I was back in terrible pain and went thru pain management, passive therapy, you name it, I tried it. Luckily something ended up working as I am fairly normal (debatable? LOL) now. I still have pain every day but the steroid shot was not any pain relief for me. I did gain weight rapidly as well. And my blood pressure skyrocketed for some reason. Anyway, these injections do work for many and I hope you get some temporary relief! _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Elaine and Sent: Monday, March 30, 2009 10:06 AM Subject: Re: [ ] steroid injections in neck Hi Heidi I had a steroid injection in my hip joint 3 weks ago.
