Hi Suzanne,

Unlike you, I don't have rhinophyma, but suffer from a lot of rosacea flushing

and the odd bout of spots! I can't remember exactly who it was in the

discussion group, but one person mentioned that they thought the Sher System

was just a cover up system and didn't do much for rosacea. I do have to partly

agree with that, although you have to remember that Helen Sher doesn't clain to

CURE rosacea, just CONTROL the symptoms. As regards this, I think the system

does do that, particularly the SOS lotion, which has lots of Zinc oxide in it.

I have contacted Helen Sher, asking her for a listing of ingredients for the

multi-action serum, and she is posting it on to me, as I want to know exactly

what oils are in it. Also the pre-wash cleanser 1, as I reacted quite badly to

this, but loved the oil-free pre-wash cleanser 2.

I have already substituted Simple's foaming facial gel, for the Sher's foaming

facial wash, as I think they're pretty similiar and it's cheaper!!!

So basically the only products I'm going to be using from the Sher system are

the serum, pre-wash cleanser 2 and SOS lotion. Although when I find out about

the ingredients of the serum I'll hopefully make up a cheaper version of my

own! And as for her make-up, I can just as easily buy something cheaper here

in Ireland, with a similiar content.

She does also advocate drinking lots of water, which I'm trying to do!!

Best of luck!

Hi all,

I would tend to agree that eating a healthy diet is the best way to get your nutrients, but one has to remember that there is an incredible amount of controversy about what a " healthy diet " is. Also, what is healthy for one person can be practically poison to another, and the " one diet fits all " that is pushed on us by modern society (and, sadly, even some modern physicians) is actually quite unhealthy.

My son has celiac disease and multiple food allergies, and I went to four pediatricians who all said that the diarrhea was just from a little bug (even after more than a month of it!), and fussiness and rashes in babies were normal, and that I was a fussy mother - even though my husband has diagnosed celiac disease, and I have diagnosed multiple food allergies! When I finally found a doctor who would test him, well I'll be, celiac disease and multiple food allergies! Anyway, I belong to the Paleo diet list, and there is a lot of argument about what's healthy just between the vegetarians and my group. Judging by the huge number of books out there, I would have to say that apparently nobody knows what is best, and since we're all different it may take us time to figure out what is healthy for us as individuals. To wrap this up, what I really wanted to say (!) is that it doesn't hurt to take supplements for a while to help your body recover, especially from the type of severe nutrient deficits that are typically found in people with our kinds of health problems. I personally have followed many of the vitamin and mineral guidelines in Precription for Nutritional Healing (by Balch and Balch by the way) for more than a year, and not only is my rosacea well under control, but my skin and hair are healthier than I can ever remember. There are many physicians ( F. Balch MD and V. MD to name two who are well-known) who will tell you that certain health problems are almost always attributable to a lack of certain nutrients in the diet, and that recovery is most certainly aided by supplementation (and that with diet changes permanent supplementation may not be necessary). Sorry to rattle on, but I think supplements can be valuable to us, and my research (personal and at the medical library, to which I am a frequent visitor) supports my theory.

Cheers!

Hi Kerry,

I agree with you that supplements don't hurt, but it's just that some people

take loads of pills instead of correcting their diet and eating a wide variety

of foods like seeds, veg, fruit, nuts etc... and some people may not know the

dangers of taking vitamin A supplements when you're pregnant for example.

Although I do think most people on this mailing list seem v.knowledgeable about

their nutrition and their diets.

Not sure, will dig it out for you.

It's big in the States apparently.

> Are you still using the Sher System products or have you changed over to

I'm using everything except the wash

still, am now trying out the Septalibour

Aderma thing. It feels quite nice.

Also just got hold of the tinted

Clinique City Block to use as a mild

sunblock. Seems very nice. Non-chemical

too.

> Are you taking a lot of supplements??

A few. And drinking nettle tea, because

I've read in a lot of places that it's

good for the skin and general complexion.

I'm not taking what's recommended on the

list, some of the quantities were outrageous.

Helen is changing this.

I'm taking at the moment,

Vitamin C 250mg

Vitamin E 100iu

B-Complex

B-6

Mulitivitamin

That's it.

I'm also looking for a good PhotoDerm

centre to get rid of the flushing/permanent

pinkness. When I go red, boy do I go

red. Which is annoying for me, because as

a kid (until 16) I had beautiful, milky white skin

which never flushed. I'm beginning to

notice tiny burst veins in my cheeks at

the moment.

Hi ,

I agree with you about Helen Sher's recommendations. Did you try the pre-wash

cleanser 2 by the way???? I've found it great, I've asked for an ingredients

listing which I should get in the post this week.

I though Photoderm was only for reducing the spots and acne associated with

rosacea, I didn't realise it could also reduce the redness, I would be

interested to know how you get on, as I suffer from a lot of redness every day.

Except I hide it with make-up, I'd love not to have to wear make-up, but if I

stepped outside the door without it, I'd look like a strawberry!!! And using

make-up has increased my confidence no end.

I must check out to see if there are any photoderm facilities in Ireland.

Good luck!
