Guest guest
Hi .     Yes, I find when I get sick, I am very sick. If I get a cold, it goes right to my lungs, then I get Bronchitis, in turn I then get asthma, and I am very sick. I now go to the doctor right away, and get on anti-biotics, etc. I end up using my Nebulizer too. I can't tell you how often I have had Pneumonia, way too many times. I don't get sick that often, but when I do, it becomes very serious quickly. It takes a long time to get over it.     Wishing you better days ahead.  Hugs,  Barbara From: oogiejonz <bajones@...> Subject: [ ] are you " sicker " than you used to be? Date: Thursday, July 1, 2010, 11:27 AM  Do any of you find that things you used to be able to just brush off, like a cold, now hit you like a sledgehammer now that you have RA? It seems like I never just get a cold any more. I mean, I know it is just a cold, but an exhausting, overwhelming, need to stay in bed for a couple of days cold! This has happened every time I've gotten a cold for the past few couple of years, complete wipe out for a good two weeks. J.
Guest guest
Oh yes! When I get a cold now it lasts for at least a month. Guest guest
Hi ,  My experience has been the opposite. I can't remember the last time I've had a cold...it's been years. And when I did get them, they were very mild, never had to miss work or anything. BUT....I'm not on any kind of medication. I am wondering if the meds people are on for the RA are affecting their immune systems. I hope others will chime in as this is an extremely interesting thread for me. Guest guest
Sheryl: Most of the meds we take suppress our immune system so it is easier for us to catch anything. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you. This is the reason I joined this list....to learn the pro's and con's of all the meds. Given this info. I will continue to say " no thank you " . I'd rather deal w/the pain, fatigue and depression than be sick a lot. That's just me, no judgement on anyone who chooses otherwise. I was scared to try any meds after my experience w/Methotrexate and this just affirms my decision. I appreciate the honesty and thoughtfulness of this group. Guest guest
Hi, I read that the DMARDs suppresses the immune system. Steroids also make us prone to infections. Maybe that's the reason behind it. Rose
Guest guest
Some of us do not have asy choice about taking the meds. If they do not take them, the joints deterirate and become deformed.  Bureau Alvarez ________________________________ From: Sheryl <Arrow31298@...> Sent: Thu, July 1, 2010 4:19:19 PM Subject: Re: [ ] are you " sicker " than you used to be?  Hi ,  Thank you. This is the reason I joined this list....to learn the pro's and con's of all the meds. Given this info. Guest guest
Yes, that's right, . With pain that was as bad as mine was at first, I was begging for meds to relieve it. Now, with Enbrel, my RA is under very good control. And I have no deformities. The meds may be bad, but RA is worse. A good rheumatologist will work to find the right meds for each person that will have the fewest adverse side effects.
