Guest guest
Hi Debbie, What a doctor, and I'm sorry you had to go back to him! Where do you live, may I ask? It is hard to find a good rheumy, and that is so sad, because there are so many patients who need GOOD care. That really upsets me, that you had to go through his abuse, and that is exactly what it was. I'm glad your on humira and mtx, but is it working for you? Sometimes, you need to switch meds, until you find the right combo. How long have you been on those 2 meds? Are you on a NSAID? Now, are you still diagnosed with fibro? You might need a med to help with fibro. I have been on neurontin for years for neuropathy pain in my leg. I would have swelling in my left calf, needles and pin feeling, pain, just irritable feeling. It would help some. The med suppose to help with fibro, but I guess it wasn't working. My primary doctor put me on cymbalta, and I'm a new woman. The fibro pain is so gone, so now I can deal with the RA pain. Do you inject the humira in your legs? I inject in my thighs, and my thighs are sore. I'm not sure why you would have bruising, maybe someone had a reply. Oh girl, I know how you feel. If you are almost bed-ridden, how in the hell can someone exercise. I have been through this too, just ignore the darn fool. My advice, find another doctor. If you have to go a distance, do it, so worth it. My doctor is 1 1/2 hour one way, but he is the best in OK too. I am so glad to have my doctor. I know it's hard right now, but you need to take control of your life. This doctor isn't helping you that much, it seems. You need a caring doctor, who wants to help you. I'm here if you need a friend. I'm sorry your going through this, wish there was something I can do. I can give you support and a shoulder. Take care, and gentle hugs, Tawny My primary doctor put me on cymbalta, and I'm a new woman. I feel so much better with the fibro. If your not hurting in your joints, it could very well be fibro. > > HI MY NAME IS DEBBIE I READ YOU GUYS POSTS ALOT AND ALWAYS THOUGHT ID LIKE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOMEONE TO TALK TO ALSO...ALTHOUGH I WAS ONLY DIAGNOSED WITH RA IN FEB OF 08 I KNOW IVE HAD IT MUCH LONGER(BLOOD TESTS WHERE OFF THE WALL) THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO AN RA DOC HE TOLD ME I WAS FAT DEPRESSED HAD FIBRO AND NEEDED TO GO TO SEE JENNY CRAIG...I WAS DEVASTED HOW COULD A PERSON BE SO CRUEL I CRIED AND SUFFERED FOR YEARS..FINALLY AFTER A YEAR OF BEING BEDRIDDEN..I COULDNT EVEN LIFT MY LEGS TO GET IN THE SHOWER, (walked when i could with a walker) ITS PROBALY 3-4 INS OF GROUND.. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I am soooo sorry that you had to indure the abuse of that doctor! I think a lot of us have some horror stories about doctors and I , too live in a small town. I was happy with the local doctor but after being frustrated at my allergic reactions, he referred me to a specialist 2 hours away at a Medical University (of SC). I went, and although the lady was nice, she proceeded to tell me I have never had RA - didn't listen to a thing I had to say. I cried the 2 hour drive back. I have been diagnosed - seperately by 5 different doctors that were not associated with one another. Now, I have an appt with a doctor in Columbia about 1 1/2 hrs away but I feel good about this one. Besides, I am having the mother of all flares right now - so by george it should show up during the exam.................Hang in there - if you have to drive to find a good one, (hey, I picked my new out thru www.ratemds..com & www.vitals.com . ) it will be worth the drive. Please don't give up. The other thing, a lot of people get good results with Humira but I had massive & severe bone and muscle pains from it. Although it lowered the numbers they look at in your blood, they couldn't keep me on it. You need to find a doctor - other than the ass you got now (! ) and find out what is going on with you. Please - I am not trying to scare you w/ my story, but it just shows you - you really got to find someone that listens and cares.. It may take a few, but it's priceless when you finally find the right one! Good luck to you - my thoughts & prayers are with you! We are all here for you and with you! in SC ltdavis_jrdavis@... Guest guest
Hi Debbie - I'm glad you've decided to stop lurking and start talking. Welcome to the group. This RA is not an easy thing to deal with. You mentioned that your doctor thought you also had Fibromyalgia - what are you taking for that? That could be why your legs give you such a fit. I take Neurontin for that and there are others who also take Cymbalta (which helps with the depression too). I'm glad your Rheumy finally woke up and saw just how bad you were doing. Its a shame he's the only one in your area. Are you having your bloodwork done on a regular basis? My doc was mainly interested in my AST & ALT (among others) and I found out that it was cheaper to do a CMP - especially where I don't have insurance - and it gave results for a whole lot of other things that also might help to explain the bruising if it is that bad. I don't know what to tell you about the weight. I struggle with it too. The best thing we can do is watch what we put in our mouths and try to move as much as we can. If you have access to a pool, that helps tremendously as the weight is off your joints while in the water. I don't get in nearly as often as I should. No apologies necessary for the " long winded-ness " . That's what we're here for. Call your Rheumy - keep us posted. We care.....Doreen HI MY NAME IS DEBBIE I READ YOU GUYS POSTS ALOT AND ALWAYS THOUGHT ID LIKE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOMEONE TO TALK TO ALSO...ALTHOUGH I WAS ONLY DIAGNOSED WITH RA IN FEB OF 08 I KNOW IVE HAD IT MUCH LONGER(BLOOD TESTS WHERE OFF THE WALL) THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO AN RA DOC HE TOLD ME I WAS FAT DEPRESSED HAD FIBRO AND NEEDED TO GO TO SEE JENNY CRAIG...I WAS DEVASTED HOW COULD A PERSON BE SO CRUEL I CRIED AND SUFFERED FOR YEARS..FINALLY AFTER A YEAR OF BEING BEDRIDDEN..I COULDNT EVEN LIFT MY LEGS TO GET IN THE SHOWER, (walked when i could with a walker) ITS PROBALY 3-4 INS OF GROUND.. Guest guest
Debbie I sympathize with you. Having RA is a dabilatating illness that I would not wish on my stepmother...excuse me, my worse enemy. I have cried and complained to God and finally accepted that I am disabled due to this illness and there is no cure yet, but have to take it with a grain of salt and not let it wear me out. I do everything in moderation and loss the weight to help with joint pain and gained 55 lbs. back causing my flare ups to be more often envloving my lower back. I have had numerous surgeries and gone through chemo therapy even to lower my SED rate. I catch infections easily and cause my body does not fight off infections like it is suppose to. I have sheltered myself from my family and taken myself out of all family gatherings and am a home body mostly. On top of the RA I have another ailment that I am on meds for and dealing with daily. With excruciating pain from the RA. my motto is " if I don't move, I won't move " . I hope things get relief for you doon. Irish In a message dated 8/17/2009 2:03:15 P.M. Guest guest
There's a lot of issues to RA with on the surface seem unrelated to our primary issue but are the direct result of it because of the amount of medications we have to take, the fact that we cannot exercise even like people who do not normally excerise, plus some things we cause ourselves because we cannot do regular things. In other words, RA is a nightmare. Stan Florence Or, windy. Guest guest
Irish, I was just reading all the recent posts, when I came across yours... " if I don't move, I won't move " phrase made me chuckle to myself, as I always tell people that I'm a shark... Most sharks extract oxygen using ram ventilation , passing water over the gills by moving forward(turning water into oxygen). Some highly-active sharks depend on ram ventilation almost entirely, which means they stay in motion most of the time! Translation--If some sharks don't move almost continuously, they'll die! I feel this way often... I don't want to move! But I have to move, cause if I don't, I will never move and I'm guessing that will be the start of my death. Plain and simple! Thanks for sharing your moving theory... Bonnie > > Debbie I sympathize with you. Having RA is a dabilatating illness that I > would not wish on my stepmother...excuse me, my worse enemy.
