Guest guest
Dear , I have no clue what that website is now. It seems to me that it was a government one (.gov), but even that I'm not sure of. This was months ago. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers! Guest guest
Hey Kathy: Welcome to the list. I guess you've really been here all along... I can tell you that at one year, the weight loss party was not over for me. After that, though, it seems like it fell off more in " chunks. " Nothing for a while, then 3 pounds or something. Guest guest
Hi there. Welcome to the list. I also have no experience with diabetes and the keto diet, although my son has something similar. Jack was diagnosed with a metabolic disorder at 3 years old (he is now 4 1/2) and instead of having low blood sugar like diabetes, he has low csf sugar. The ketogenic diet is the best thing that ever happened to us. The reason I am writing is that we have a little girl in our small city that has MELAS. She has made headlines in New Zealand because she is taking part in drug trailing in the States and our health system won't help cover any of the costs, even though it has made a huge difference to her life. As far as I know she is the only one in this country with MELAS, like Jack is the only one with Glut-1 DS. I just wondered if you had any contact with another MELAS sufferer and if not, I could try and put you in contact with these people. Good luck and I hope there is someone on this list that can help. Guest guest
It's definitely not necessary to fast. Our clinic starts all Keto kids on the diet without fasting..... and they have had over 160 patients on it. We started in-patient and stayed two days but started right out at a 3.5:1 ratio. I know some other parents on this list started their kids at very low ratios and worked up. It may take longer.... and although I'm unsure about starting at 2.5:1 and whether or not you'll get good ketosis if you're not going any higher than that to start, my daughter, Katera (on the diet 22 months), makes good ketones at only 2:1 now. It's sure worth a try..... best of luck. Patti Introduction Date: Wed, Aug 21, 2002, 5:51 AM <<The main reason I am writing is because we are about to commence a form of the keto diet. Guest guest
Hello my name is and I live in Tampa, Florida. About a year ago I went to a nutritionist who recommended the book IE and I fell in love with it and started recommending it to everyone else. I also had read Rethinking Thin which confirmed my beliefs. However, I started falling victim to the pressure to loose weight mostly by my mother and a few friends. So I tried several more diets and failed. Recently, I paid several hundred dollars to participate in an online workshop on this topic. I found the materials to be very banal in comparison with IE and also there was only 1 other person and while she and I have really clicked, the workshop hasn't been very meaningful. In comparing the two, I was telling her about IE and thought I would look to see if they hand anything online. So her I am. I am very overweight and need to get healthier but I cannot keep failing on diets. I also get very frustrated trying to explain this to everyone.
