Guest guest
, Are you taking vitamin B supplements? I had read where a shortage of B vitamins can cause leg cramps. A B-Complex vitamin might help with your problem. Peggy > Is any one having trouble with nocturnal leg cramps? Guest guest
, How is your potassium level? A lot of times a level that is at the lower end of " normal " will cause leg cramps also. Guest guest
I have heard many times to take Calcium for leg cramps-particularly calcium with magnesium and zinc. I hope that will help you. I have heard that from several people as well as my Anatomy and Physiology professor. Ruth Van Blankenstein 1-29-03 down 36 pounds! Leg cramps > Is any one having trouble with nocturnal leg cramps? Guest guest
I only use to get them on a regular basis when I was pregnant. Maybe when you are sleeping something is putting pressure on the blood flow or nerve. I just learn to feel it coming and would quickly raise my foot up not down to avoid the severe cramp. Guest guest
- Several possibilities come to mind. You don't say whether or not you take all the supplements. I have always heard that leg cramps could be caused from a calcium deficiency and/or vit E deficiency. We don't absorb calcium carbonate very well so I make sure to take calcium citrate, which we do absorb. I read that we only absorb about 20% of the calcium carbonate we take. Most multi vitamins use calcium carbonate. Tums are calcium carbonate, too. As usual, I want to point out that I am NOT a medical person - so I could be way off base with this. This is just what I have read through the years. I have nerve damage in my toes from diabetes and it is always worse at night. There are nights I can't get to sleep from the aching in my toes. my dr put me on neurontin for that. It helps, but nothing takes it away. Have you asked your dr about " restless leg syndrome " ? I don't know what causes it but I have read about that, too. Years ago when I took a lot of diuretics I had some problems with leg cramps and they said it was low potassium. Hope someone is able to help you! Margaret in St. Louis > Is any one having trouble with nocturnal leg cramps? Guest guest
, I'd be willing to bet that your potassium is low. That will cause leg cramps at night. I'd advise you get someone to check the levels. When I was on the Atkins diet and losing a lot of water, I'd get them and take 99 mg. Potassium supplement tab per day. That worked fine and very quickly. But it's best to get someone to do a blood test to be absolutely sure. Best wishes, Pat Leg cramps Is any one having trouble with nocturnal leg cramps? Guest guest
take an extra iron suppliment.... dont use slow fe....it will release at times when calcium is being absorbed and neither nutrient will be effective. down side....iron rises SLOWLY 3 weeks to see any difference... look at the inside of your lower eyelids... they should be the color of a ruby red grapefruit.....not a cantaloupe... those eyelids are a good iron indicator! good luck!!! cathy s in va Is any one having trouble > with nocturnal leg cramps? Guest guest
I would be more concerned that it is due to low potassium - definitely causes leg cramps. (SC) 298/
Guest guest
Calcium? leg cramps Hi everyone I have a short problem I hope maybe someone might have the answer. It seems the more weight I lose the worse leg cramps I receive. I work out almost daily but the cramps are sometimes late afternoon and I do drink plenty of water. I also take mag/potassium supplements. That seemed to help but now they are back and so painful I cant move sometimes. When I was heavy I never had them.. I get so stiff even though I stretch everyday. I hope you can help me.

Guest guest
You didn't mention any other symptoms besides the leg cramps. Do you have any other problems? The reason I ask is I had cramping problems and discovered that it was caused by adrenal fatigue. Guest guest
-The problems I have had have been long standing, just alittle history. I have had 20 surgeries. I have tendons that feed on my bones and muscles. They stay inflammed all the time. Only exercise relieves this problem. Plus finding this group and the books have relieved alot of the mess. The doctors informed me I have a genetic disease that my insides are aging 10 years faster then my outside and my age. So Iam fighting daily to walk and move. The last 3 years have been the hardest for me. Yet the last year has been the best because I have found Eat right 4 Your type Lifestyle and diet. The doctors dont have a diagnoses for this problem and they cant treat me as well. So they wanted to treat me with pills with I dont like to take. My brother-in-law told me about the books and I read them and started a journey that no doctor could help me. They can only treat me by what they are doing. In the future I will need shoulder, elbow wrist, hip and ankle replacements. But I believe in what Iam doing at this moment and I hope can stall the outcome. Sorry for the scenio and the long list. Guest guest
Hi , You might need to take some good quality salt.try it out. I use Redmond RealSalt; good stuff. I'm sure there are other brands that are also quite good. If you are drinking lots of water and sweating substantially, you loose a lot of salt. Good luck. Guest guest
Jerry Kahn, I had no documented proof of the leg cramps happening without low potassium except my potassium was never low, even on mega doses of Lasix 120 mg's at times along with 75 mg's of Spironolactone. All I know is my legs cramped like Heck for about 1 month. After starting the Tonic Water and Lime drink for about 1 month, it all stopped. So I am a true believer that your potassium is not the only reason you get leg cramps. Don't have them now. Go Figure.
