Guest guest
I know this makes no sense but it works, so here goes: My husband gets leg cramps in bed; I get restless legs. Both of us are helped by putting a bar of soap between the bottom sheet and the mattress. I don't know where I heard this but I tried it and it works. I'm told not to use Dove or Dial, but any other kind of soap. I use hotel soap, as the bars are small and don't make a big lump.
Guest guest
The syndicated column "ASK DR. GOTT" reports that soap under the sheet has helped many of its readers. (But can't explain why!) wayneChonette <ch@...> wrote: ,it was Maguire from the Acor list that posted this the first time, Ialso found it amazing, but he said it works, and now you also say it worksfor you.I can relate to calcium and the yogurt, specially as we loose calcium whilehaving steroids,, I have not had cramps for months now but I keep takingcalcium and eat a lot of yogurt, mainly because I do not drink cows mils, only occasionally goats milk due to sinus, well I used to suffer from sinussome 10 years ago and now I have no problem, so I keep out of dairy productsas much as I can.all the advise is useful.thanksChonette1c. Guest guest
Potassium, Phosphorus, Sodium...leg cramps may be an indicator of electrolyte imbalance. I usually recommend adequate fluid intake, add a very small amount of salt if avoiding high NA content foods and increase potassium foods (provide a list). Beth Whelan, MS,RD,LD Outpatient Dietitian Harbin Clinic office: (706) 378-8163 fax: (706) 238-8037 Â Leg cramps I have a female pt who is 5 mos post RNY and c/o legs cramps at night. At her last follow-up (7/06), her 25 OH Vit D was 21.9 (20-31 = hypovitaminosis; 10-19 - mild to moderate deficiency). She admitted to getting less than the 1000-1500 supplemenmtal Ca (citrate)daily and was going to do better. Anything else I can recommend (chemistries, B12, folate, Fe studies all ok)? Should I increase this amount? ==>Leg cramps are usually caused by not enough magnesium. Most of us are much more deficient in magnesium than calcium. Take more magnesium than calcium and you could try lowering your calcium to 400 mg. Also ensure you are getting enough minerals from ocean sea salt (no less than 1 1/2 tsp per day) which also affects the balance of minerals in your body. Also good nature-made fats help your body utilize minerals. Bee
Guest guest
Hello all, I had my mgb in September 2006. For the last couple of weeks I have been having trouble sleeping through the night due to leg cramps and aches. I'm not sure if they're mgb related. Does anyone else suffer from this? Guest guest
Potassium, potassium, potassium!!!. I did the same thing, my doctor actually put me on more potassium pills. I found out if I made certain I drunk my gatorade, I was fine. Those cramps hurt so bad, I even got them on the front of my calves and feet. My doctor said he had never heard of anyone getting cramps there Pam Stockton 6/16/05 343/198/175 someday Re: leg cramps Hello all, I had my mgb in September 2006. Guest guest
Felice - Hi! I am one of your litter mates! (). I hope you are doing better this time around. Sara and I were the ones who kept checking in on you when you were sleeping and your sweet husband was watching over you. How is your weight loss this time? I had some leg aches/cramps but not much. Make sure you are getting enough potassium/magnesium. Let me know how you are doing. Sara, and I are all about the same as far as weight loss. Send me your phone number so we can keep updated. Guest guest
I have a problem absorbing calcium (I had my thyroid removed a few years ago) and take 3 calcium supplements a day, plus drink 3 glasses of milk a day. If I miss a supplement or a milk more than twice I suffer cramps in the calves or feet. I KNOW it's calcium because if I'm religious about the supplements and the milk I NEVER have leg/foot cramps. So it's possibly not potassium or not JUST potassium but upping your calcium intake should be a preventive, as well. Guest guest
I do know that leg pain, more often upper leg pain, can be associated with sacrum and lumbar pain. Specifically, sciatica and sacroilliac issues can cause this. I would imaging other low back problems could cause it as well. I have trouble with my left sacroilliac joint and get leg pain almost everyday on my left side. I'm still waiting for my insurance to approve the MRI so my dr hasn't done anything about it yet or given me a definitive diagnosis. At this point I take ibuprofen or, if it's really bad, I'll take a percocet for it. It normally stays in the upper leg but can radiate down into my knee and calf on a bad day. I also take a magnesium supplement that seems to help with muscle spasms and cramps. Take care, emamam3 <emamam3@...> wrote: Has anyone ever experienced leg cramping associated with low back pain? Guest guest
I get them too in both legs. I have not found any meds that I can take that will get rid if them but my doctor put me on Flexeril for my Fibro and it helped with the muscle cramps too. Have not tried patches but know some it works and some it does not. My doctor sent me to Pt and it helps. Also really hot baths or heating pad. At lease with the pain I know I am alive. I was drinking tonic water as well, but discovered that it had too much sodium for me. My doctor prescribed quinine tablets for me and they are like miracles. The cramps I got were absolutely dibilitating. Sometimes I take several in a few weeks, now its been weeks since I've needed one. They work great for Al (hubby with fibro) as well. Good luck. Guest guest
, I get cramps too. I also take prescription potassium. If your potassium levels were " good " but in the low range, maybe you still need a boost. Of course, leg cramps can signify a lot of things, so you should really get in and talk to the doc about it soon I would think.
