Guest guest
AHHH! Tonic water with a slice of lime is a delicious drink for the summer time AND it takes care of leg cramps real quick. Quinine also does the trick but Docs don't prescribe it anymore and most drug companies have stopped making it, why? I used to take quinine but now I have to drink tonic water which I used to drink anyway because I like it with a little shot of gin in it but now I have to have it without the gin, darn! Guest guest
There is still one drug company that makes quinine Mutual Pharmaceutical Company, Inc., a prescription-only drug, is the only quinine product approved by the FDA. Apparently there have been some deaths from quinine use (but you never know if those were allergic reactions, people taking it incorrectly, medicine interactions, disease interactions or what) so the FDA does not recommend it for muscle cramps. Now, having the official line of bs out of the way-I think it does great for leg cramps and (properly prescribed!) have never seen any problems with it. Best thing, of course, is always to talk to your doctor. If the problem is finding the drug, you could tell your pharmacist the name of this drug company. Hope that help! Ann [10041] > AHHH! Guest guest
Hi Ann : I didn't get a chance to welcome you yet but I guess now is as good a time as any? My name is Bob and my wife Carole and I are both together the Secretary and treasurer of the Foundation (in other words Carole helps me with both jobs) and I am the one who got the Brochures printed so if you would like some of them I would be glad to send you as many as you need. As for the quinine, I am the one who has been having trouble getting it. My Pain Doc has been prescribing it for me but my Pharmacy's around here can't seem to get it so thank you very much for the name of that company. I will pass it on to my pharmacy. Welcome to the group which we call Stilligans and my wife and I adopt everyone that ends up here so consider yourself adopted! Sorry no allowances! This is the best bunch of people you will ever want to meet bar none. We all have our ups and downs but then we are all sick also so that must be taken into consideration. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask. If I can't get it or do it I can usually find someone who can? Well, with that said Ya'll take care now and be as PAIN FREE as you can be. Love Ya'll! Guest guest
Well friends, I took your advice about the potassium and magnesium. My husband picked up some supplements at the store. I decided to start with just one pill each...and last night was the first sound sleep I've had in a while. My calves are still tight...but much better! I'll continue with the potassium and magnesium until they don't feel tight anymore. I was sorely tempted by the tonic water...but didn't think I could stomach it without the gin lol. But it's good to know there is a back-up! Thanks again guys!

Guest guest
Hi igh, Yes, this is typical. I will send you a few e-mails to help you understand what is happening. Don't worry, he should get better within the first few weeks. Most people do. My best Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Leg Cramps My husband had MS and just started on LDN this week. Every night this week he has gotten a leg cramp. Has any one else experienced this problem? In the past he did get leg cramps but not this often. igh
Guest guest
//> Maureen, I would suggest making sure you're getting more magnesium than calcium. Reduce your calcium intake a little, because too much calcium can contribute to muscle cramping. Magnesium helps to offset excess calcium, and will help your muscle cramps. Calcium is excitatory to the system, while magnesium is calming, which is why the two balance each other well. It sounds to me like you may be getting too much calcium perhaps? Also, it might be a good idea to consider a small potassium supplement, as this is a hot supplement for those in the low-carb. world who have muscle cramp issues. For me though, I've found getting magnesium daily helps to keep muscle cramping at bay better than potassium. I think they might have it wrong...not so much potassium, but more magnesium. Best wishes, > > After learning how to navigate the info I needed, I have been quite, but still pushing forward. > > Today is my 20th day. I have lost 10lbs. I have scared my family sleeping so much. I have had high days, and low days, but I am very optimistic that I am healing. I have tried so many things in the past, and spent so much money, and feared my life was destined to a continuous battle. I am up to 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil, ( not a typo). I have a cramp in my left leg. It feels like it wants to " Charlie Horse. " I finally bought some calcium and magnesium yesterday. Your are very fortunate to be able to sleep so much - it is very healing. I also slept a lot, particularly during the first 3 months of my candida program. I could only be up for 2 hours at a time. > I have a cramp in my left leg. It feels like it wants to " Charlie Horse. " I finally bought some calcium and magnesium yesterday. Will it need a few days to go away? ==>It shouldn't take more than a couple of days to help. Also ensure you are getting enough trace minerals plus sodium & chloride (2 of the 7 macrominerals needed) from ocean sea salt, and also drink a good filtered water (not reverse osmosis or distilled) which is the other best source of trace minerals. Saturated fats also help your body absorb and utilize all minerals, along with cod liver oil (omega 3, and vitamins A & D), and vitamin E. Guest guest
> it might be a good idea to consider a small potassium > supplement, as this is a hot supplement for those in the low-carb. , what type of potassium would be OK for us candida sufferers? Is there a particular brand that is OK to use? I'm going to travel and want to avoid eating too much restaurant vegetables since they will be non-organic so I want to make sure I don't get too little potassium. Guest guest
To stop the calf cramp immediately, bend up your knee and dorsi-flex your foot (push toes up, heel down). I found that increasing my magnesium intake in relation to calcium has pretty much stopped them - I take about 900 mg of each per day. Hope this helps. Debbie TGet trade secrets for amazing burgers.
