soni, they always do mine with contrast, and that's always been administered

through IV. I have a 3 level spinal fusion so that might be part of the

reasoning behind that, I don't really know. I was diagnosed over 15 years ago

with RA, and 20 years ago with fibro. In my case there had been disease process

going on before I was diagnosed. They may be trying to get a baseline to compare

later scans with or something, I seem to recall doing that many years ago. best

of luck to you, sweetie.

Hi Soni - It is my understanding that they usually don't use contrast unless the

patient has had a prior surgery in the area they are doing the MRI on.....

Doreen :)

I have an MRI scheduled for tomorrow... the rheumy wrote " + or - contrast " on it

so I'm not sure if I'm having the injection... is contrast typically used in

rheumatology cases? (I hate needles.)

Also, am I likely to even show any damage at this early stage? Just diagnosed

two months ago.

Hi Soni.  I had a MRI with contrast a few weeks ago for a RA nodule.  It helps

the Rheumy to see what is going on as the contrast shows everything.  I have

also had MRI's without contrast.  I guess it depends on what they are looking

for.

Good luck with your test.

Hugs,

Thanks everyone for your input re contrast in MRIs. I ended up having the MRI

yesterday first without the contrast, then with it. Wasn't too bad.
