Guest guest
I read about cauterizing the tonsils , before I saw a neurosurgeon who discussed it with me . Then a second who did the same ..starting 4 years ago, then surgery 3 years ago . I had time to search out one study ...all I can recall at the moment is its from Japan , and includes quite a lot of patients , ...the full study was on the net somewhere ... it showed really good outcomes with the tonsils cauterised . I read at the same time , that no use nor need for the tonsil tissue had been found. when it was explained to me that the tonsil tissue may be scared ....essetially dead or very compressed and dammaged ....it made absolute sense to me to have it zapped OUTTA the way of that csf ! I think of those tonsils as having been vaporized ..afterall , its almost all water in those cells ( G) . if that tissue shouldn't have been under the dynamic stress it was from csf presure in the first place , ....and may well be badly scared and dammaged ...why not have your nsg get it on outta there ? not all neurosurgeons open the dura , and hense some don't do much zapping unless the knife slips ! I experienced lots of nausea and vommiting after decompresion ...when ever I'd try to drink , or eat ...about day four , they started giving me shots before I'd try to eat ..and then the doctor explained that what I was experiecing was more common after having the tonsils zapped ..and they thought it would settle down soon ..it did , at about a week post op without the shots ..but geesh , discuss before surgery that if this happens when you try to drink post surgery ...a standing order for shots be there too ! Im still if favor of opening the dura ...having that doc look around for good outlet from the 4th ventricle ect ...zap the tonsils to help avoid any need for lower lamenectomys below c1 if possible . Get things opened up for heavens sake ...geepers , ya only use a bit of your brains anyway right ? sarah in paradise ( doing much better still , now almost three years post op ) ...multiple sclerosis ,acm , bifida related stuff , gartners cyst /malformations , and dancing just a bit on my toes still at 49 ! ( hey chip ....like to waltz ? )
