Melody,

Are you saying that you haven't been officially diagnosed yet?

in PA

No, I haven't been officially diagnosed. My Dr. wants me to come in for tests

as she feels that is what is the matter.

At the time of her suggesting this we were switching Insurances and so I really

didn't have any. Now we do, but the co-pay is so high I hate to use it, and

then you have a diagnosis and if you change Insurances again later on, you have

an " pre-existing diagnosis " . They usually frown on such things. I don't know

if I want that. So, I've just been treating the symptoms without any official

diagnosis.

I really don't know what to do! There are days that I think, " I don't

care...I'm going in...! " I'll take some pain reliever, feel better, and not do

it.

What I have trouble with is my fingers and wrists, elbows are VERY painful,

hips, sometimes knees and shoulders.

I find I can't do things (opening jars, lifting clothes out of the washing

machine, picking up heavy things, etc. without a lot of pain, or not being able

to do it at all. Earlier I reached over to pick up my Bible from the top of the

computer tower and I couldn't do it. And sitting her typing...if I do it too

long my elbows freeze up and REALLY get to hurting. Even reaching up to scratch

my head...hurts!

Dear people, I am just wondering about pain management right now and how safe

" what I'm doing " is? I don't have a Rheumatologist so prescriptions aren't

available to me.

Stan, I purposely looked for Tylenol Arthritis when I was at the store last

time. (I couldn't find it.) That was something that I wanted to try, as well

as something to help me sleep. Thank you for suggesting it. Now I know that

they DO still make it and I just need to ask.

Thank you!

Melody

Melody,

I'm so sorry you are in this position, but I urge you to get in to see

a rheumatologist as soon as possible.

If it is rheumatoid arthritis, and I hope that it isn't, treating it

aggressively from the beginning is quite likely to result in a much,

much better outcome than if you wait. Months matter in this situation.

Your primary care physician should be able to confirm this fact.

If you wait and it is RA, you risk permanent damage and also could

allow the disease to become more aggressive and difficult to manage.

It's likely that you'll lessen your chance for remission the longer

you delay.

OTC analgesics will not slow or stop the progression of RA.
