Guest guest
Bramble Berry has kits... Sandy Question from a newbie Hi there! I am looking for a starter kit with a wooden mold included. Any suggestions? Also, are there any available that you don't have to line, that come out of the mold without plastic or paper liners? I am looking for about an 8 lb mold. I need all of the suggestions that I can get. I'm wanting to buy one in the next day or so. Thanks, Marcia
Guest guest
Why don't you make a mold yourself. For 8 lbs of soap you would need a mold that is 12 inches X 14 inches X 2 inches deep. This would hold 128 ounces and give you 8 lbs. I have found that wood is the best mold material and there really isn't any mold worth the cost that doesn't have to be lined. Freezer paper works great and you can just lift the soap right out of the mold. Be sure to make a lid to hold the heat in. I use scrap 1 X 4 to make all of my molds so they are virtually free which is a lot cheaper and no shipping. Chris > > Hi there! I am looking for a starter kit with a wooden mold included. Guest guest
- I take mine before bed, too. I have had some trouble sleeping the last couple of nights, but, there are a lot of stresses in my life right now, so, I am not going to automatically blame the medication for that one. Time will tell. I notice a lack of appetite, also, then, I get really hungry, start to eat, and seem to have not much desire to continue eating. Also, slight headaches, which I take Ibuprofen for. Nothing really earthshaking. I think these symptoms will go away as my brain adjusts. It doesn't change the functioning of my life, so, I am just going with it.... On the plus side, when I do wake up, I am ready to get going. Wow. Amazing for me.... Marilyn

However, my sis got really tired...I was also sick to my stomach for about 1.5 weeks and I yawned a ton for about 3 weeks. I had a little diarrhea, not much. I also gained 5 lbs. I take mine in the mornings and I have a very hard time waking up in the mornings, but I always have. Today out of the clear blue, I started feeling bad........I turned around and came home from driving to the mall. I was really tired, got in bed and my heart was beating pretty fast. I just felt weird.......I don't even know what a panic attack feels like but it wasn't that severe........I just don't know what it was. I was really disappointed that that happened to me today, I was doing so well. Does anyone have any thoughts of what that was? Guest guest
When I first started on Lexapro I was extremely anxious, nauseous, had headaches, shaking, couldn't sleep, etc. These things lasted for about 2 weeks and then I slowly started to feel better. However, after about 2 months my anxiety returned. The doctor increased my dosage and I have been great ever since. It has been 6 months and I can honestly say that Lexapro saved my life. While I am not 100% sure that he has never been exposed to thimerasol, I don't believe he has. We live in a major metropolitan area and his Dr's office has high turnover. It's unlikely that they had some old vaccines stock piled, and thimerasol wasn't really in use by the time he was born. He has a know egg allergy, so he has never recieved a flu shot either (the egg allergy occurred before his MMR, so that was not a factor). My question is regarding the rationale behind the vax schedule? It seems to me, that the best way for them to prove their point (that vax don't cause autism), is to delay the schedule so that it starts at age 2 and then look at the data from there. Guest guest
Nope. Never got a flu shot and no need for Rhogam and I didn't eat fish (maybe once or twice). I'm sure something environmental caused it, but unlike some on this board, I can't be sure what. I just don't understand why vaccines are pushed so young. I have an 8mo old and while he's up-to-date on shots, we are delaying all others for now. Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell? Check out new cars at Autos. Guest guest
A lot of people who are familiar with TAAP know of Dr. Tim O'Shea who is on the board (I think?). He does full-day lectures about vaccines in various larger cities which are very compelling. It is by listening to him (complete with references to his research) that I learned that the viruses in the vaccines are just as culpable for the mess our kids are in. Viruses were never meant to be injected into the body. There is a mode of transport which creates the immunity which cannot be accomplished with an injection.Rox Guzenda <hguzenda@...> wrote: Nope. If you want to start and additional batch, a thin scoby plus a generous amount of starter liquid will be sufficient for starting a new batch. However, it is just as possible, and perfectly acceptable to put the thin ones in with the bigger ones.....just all together, one scoby family. It doesn't matter, where in the jar they settle. If you leave your new brew undisturbed (very important!) at least to day 7 when you should taste it for the first time, possibly with a straw, the bacteria in your brew will have built another scoby for you straight across the top of the liquid. In the colder season scobys tend to be thinner - not a problem! freundlichen Gruss! Guest guest
Hi there Regine....You can use any or all of the SCOBYs in a new batch. You can also divide them up and do two batches if you want. If you decant the brew that has the thinner SCOBY on it...that SCOBY will stop growing. Just be sure to save out enough finished KT to use as starter liquid for whatever you next brewing will be.... Just ask if you need clarification! :-) Gayle WI/USA Question from a newbie > Hi everybody, > I am new to the group, got my first scoby two weeks ago and I am ready to > start a new batch. > My question is: does it make a difference how thick the scoby is? > After about 10 days the new scoby with the original one sank to the bottom > of the jar and a > third one formed on top of the brew. Hello Jane, I have an old post on the subject by Ed the Happy Herbalist: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ACV has a higher percentage acetic acid and therefore is more leeching than KT. For that reason you take only a spoonful of ACV compared to a cupful of KT. Another difference is ACV is akin to taking medicine and KT is like drinking a fine wine. By drinking KT you'll more likely drinking less coffee and carbonated soft drinks and less alcohol drinks all positive benefits. There are difference species of bacteria and yeasts, though sharing many of the same. KT is very easy, quick and fun to brew while ACV is time consuming (albeit easy). Both are in the pre pro-biotic stage of intervention and help establish a healthy flora but here I believe KT is superior - with the possible exception of sugar content and concerns giving ACV the edge with diabetics. Braggs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar has been a pioneer in the health field and the brand I would recommend. Overall I believe KT resolves digestive issues better and usually gives a burst of energy that ACV doesn't. (may be sugar related). Honey and other herbs and spices may be added to both KT and ACV and both KT and ACV will feed upon the honey and grow. Another common combination (with ACV, but works for KT as well) is honey and cinnamon. Which gives people with really sour KT a good option of what to do with aged KT. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > ..... I had some kombuchie years ago and was rather fond of it but I got > scared off when told that it could be poisonous. That's a real shame. The only cautionary note I would bring is: Beware mold on your KT culture, as some molds can be poisonous. Don't confuse mold with ooglies (green/brown/black) patches on, underneath the scoby, often trailing yeast strands and looking quite gross. Mold is fuzzy and presents in circular dots or rings. Ooglies are just messy tea-pigment-coloured slimies - quite harmless! Find some ooglies on: http://www.therpc.f9.co.uk/family/scobygrow/home.html BTW, I haven't had any mold on Kombucha for over 20 years. Keep the starter really acidic, and you should have no problems. > Seems all forum members are well enough so I'm going back to drinking > kombuchie tea. Oh aye, me hearty, that surely be so!
