Guest guest
Okay, this is going to sound really crazy, but I swear that it works... This works best if you do not have a gag reflex, but even if you do you can accomplish it. If you can " tickle " the very back of your throat, it will stop hiccups for a while. I just stick my middle finger in my mouth (like you are trying to get yourself to vomit). Fortunately or unfortunately, I have no gag reflex, so it is pretty easy for me (and I don't vomit). BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT USING ANY FORIEGN OBJECT TO DO THIS! (That is why I use my finger - I figure it really isn't going to leave my hand easily.) Another way of doing this... wow, this is hard to explain... You tighten down the muscles in the back of the throat, then breath out, causing the flesh in the back of your throat to vibrate. Sort of like clearing your throat but exactly different. :-) It is not as effective as the manual stimulation, but it helps. This is one of the side effects of intubation for surgery - the breathing tube stimulates this area and depresses hiccups while you are under. They also use some drugs... Hiccupping during surgery is not a good thing. LOL I hope that this helps. -- -sylvan
