Guest guest
Good job Gail! I need to re-visit that exercise myself. Guest guest
Gail, Very cool. I started doing such an exercise spontaneously this week. I couldn't eat a " substantial " breakfast because I'm in training when my morning hunger pangs come through...though I can snack on things like granola bars throughout the morning. So, I do tend to get hungry again about 1 hour or so later, if not more quickly. That's a great exercise and definitely challenging at the same time. Latoya:) The learning for this exercise is to increase my understanding of what hunger feels like for me. And practice eating small yummy amounts of food knowing I can eat another yummy small amount again as soon as I get hungry again. some fantastic mediation tapes I listen to when the mouth hunger voices become too compelling. I will keep you posted. What a exciting and sometimes scary adventure IE is for me.
Guest guest
9:10 and HUNGRY AGAIN! Just came back from a 15 mile bike ride and my tummy is telling me it wants food again. Now little miss " foodie " added lots of food but I reminded her we can eat again as soon as we get hungry....so miss foodie and I had half a pb and j san with butter (yum, yum) and a pudding cup. NOw " miss foodie " is sure we will expire because it was not enough food but again I gently reminded her it will be enough for at least awhile. I am reading Hirschmann's book overcoming overeating and in it there is an exercise, where the goal of the exercise is to get hungry as often as possible during the course of the day. I'm playing with this exercise this weekend. Hence, whenever I am hungry the idea is to only to eat a small amount so I will get hungry again soon. Some times it almost makes me feel like I'm going to have a heart attach LOL (talk about over reacting) if I stop eating when I'm just a little bit full. And the heart attach intensity seems to be in direct proportion to how much I love what I'm eating. I guess my old " diet mentality " of last supper is alive and well and trigger by feeling if it's a yummy food we had better eat all we can get our hands on because it will probably be years until we can have it again. The learning for this exercise is to increase my understanding of what hunger feels like for me. And practice eating small yummy amounts of food knowing I can eat another yummy small amount again as soon as I get hungry again. I got up about 5:15 did not know if I was hungry or not and I usually don't eat until between 6 and 7 so I decided to wait. A few minutes later my tummy growled at least I think it did, I decided to wait for another growl to make sure and a few minutes later its sister showed up. So I just finished a small breakfast. Now I will go get busy with fun stuff until my tummy lets me know its hungry again. I also have some fantastic mediation tapes I listen to when the mouth hunger voices become too compelling. I will keep you posted. What a exciting and sometimes scary adventure IE is for me>
Guest guest
Haha! I have a little miss " foodie " too. But mine are the voices from my tongue, head and stomach that I have begun to listen to as an IER. An example when I was eating Himalayan food last night: Tongue: Oh man, this tastes so good. Stomach: It does, but I am full now. I think we should stop. Head: Though stomach is right, this food is kind of expensive. Stomach: We can take it home. For real I am full. Tongue: So good, just one more bite. Then I stepped in and said, well, we can take it home and if I get hungry again, I can eat more later. The end. Though it doesn't always end up this way. > I am reading Hirschmann's book overcoming overeating and in it there > is > an exercise, where the goal of the exercise is to get hungry as often > as possible during the course of the day. > > I'm playing with this exercise this weekend. Guest guest
> I'm reading the overcoming overeating book. And want to practice the eating smaller amounts. Mostly at dinner because at dinner my normal behavior is to stuff myself until it hurts. So yesterday I decided I would go to the store this morning and get a frozen dinner that is already portioned out. I would get one that looks really yummy to me. (i'm not a cook so yes some of them look yummy to me.) And only eat that for my after work meal.....knowing that I can eat more if I get hungry again later. I'm doing it but it's really scary setting here with the feelings knowning that I'm chosing not to stuff myself to drown the feeling. It's also scary thinking that I may not get hungry again before bed. Also my body does not like to have food in it when its trying to sleep...so if it does not get hungry before 7ish it's no more food for me Its frightening thinking how little my body really need when I stop before I'm stuffed and wait until I'm hungry to eat PART TWO Shortly after writing tha above post my daughter called and said they were celebrating my grandsons birthday in about an hour at Chuck E. Cheese did we want to meet them there. We met them there and I concentrated on having fun playing with my three darling grandkids....then about 7ish I started thinking about food they had had pizza (I remember when I first saw the pizza thinking if you were hungry you could have a piece or two of that...then letting go of it) it had been over three hours since eating. So I was probabley a little hungry beings I had not stuffed myself earlier. I went to look at the salad bar and noticed it had a lot of the yummies I like. But it was very picked over and did not look very clean. plus I'm cheap and it cost a lot. So I decided to wait until I got home. On on the ride home I was thinking about what I wanted to eat and getting a little workup.....then out of the blue a calm came over me and a voice said if you wait til morning to eat you will be more hungry and really enjoy your food. For me the hungrier I am the better my food taste. (short of starving that is but then I dont think I have ever felt starving LOL)
Guest guest
Gail it sounds like you are making decisions based upon what YOU want. I can't think of anything more IE. Guest guest
Wow, good job!!! I don't even LIKE chuck e. cheese pizza (does ANYONE???), but on the rare occassions that we go there I always eat several pieces, cuz it's there, and it's so incredibly naughty. But that was in the bad old days before IE, I guess once it's not naughty I can just focus on how nasty it is and pass it up LOLOLOLOL... Mikki >I'm reading the overcoming overeating book.
