Guest guest
I don't know if it will help you, but I currently take Lyrica, Feldene and Tramadol. They help some. The Tramadol helps with the the muscle pains and the Lyrica heps with nerve pains. The Feldene doesn't always help much. However, I am going to try and get off of them and work with a Naturopath because I would like to try and have another baby before I get too much older and I want to be free of drugs before getting pregnant. I have tried Savella , am on the starter kit at 50 mg. 2 x day, and at first I felt worse, but today I think it is making me feel a little better. getting off tramadol, 3 weeks since to get on LDN. I hope this Savella works, but if there is anything out there that would also work - except it must not have opioid receptor in it - I would like to know what you use. Guest guest
Hello Jan, Here is the thing with me. I have made a commitment that I will not to take pain meds. My pain is quite bad. sometimes morphine worthy, but I deal with it. I do not want to go down the road of the cycle of pain meds that you have to worry about getting dependent on. I cannot take any of the anti-inflammatories they hurt my stomach way to badly. So the next step for me would be a level I don't want to venture down. So I have my naturopathic doctor we work on my whole body, so that addresses my pain in an indirect way. My pain, though constant, is a barometer for not doing to much, for slowly getting in shape and for having a life where I have to ask people to help me. Pain meds would just mask all that for me. So I work on the Art of Mindfulness and Meditation where I master my pain and I am not controlled by it. Without meds. hugs, Sue From: Jan Goodale <jmn@...>Subject: Pain medications Date: Saturday, June 13, 2009, 3:52 PM I am wondering what you all take for Pain. Guest guest
Jan, I started taking Savella about a month ago. At first I think it made me sick to my stomach, but now I do think it is beginning to make me feel better. The sickness is gone and so far no other side effects. I am cautiously optimistic. I started taking Neurontin in 2001, initially for neuropathy in my foot. When I was diagnosed with fibro in 2003, my doc said the Neurontin should also help with the fibro pain. I think it might have because recently it seems to have stopped working. I know it's not doing as much for the foot neuropathy, so it probably isn't doing as much for fibro either. It did work for 5 years or more, though. I don't think Neurontin has the opioid receptor, so you might want to check about Neurontin (generic is Gabapentin). Lyrica did work for me, but the side effects were not tolerable, so I had to stop. That's about all that has ever helped, except occasionally hydrocodone, which is narcotic. Guest guest
Hi, . I'm sorry you are having difficulty finding the right medication for your pain. There are many options, so don't give up. Is there any chance you could see a pain management specialist? Also, just so you know, Celebrex (celecoxib) was not developed to be a more effective medication than the traditional NSAIDs like ibuprofen, but to be safer for the GI tract. To date, Celebrex has not been demonstrated to be generally more effective than traditional NSAIDs, and its full side effect profile is still being investigated. I have Fibromyalgia, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Raynauds, and possibly Lupus. I have tried Voltaren-it didn't work at all for 1 week and then was not as strong as motrin. I tried naproxin for three days and it didn't help at all and my knees swelled up so bad that I stopped it and went back to motrin. I tried mobic and it worked wonders but it caused stomach pain so I had to stop it. And last but not least, I tried amitriptiline and it was very helpful but made me sleepy all the time and it made my heart race. Today my rheumy gave me a script for celebrex but when I took it to the pharmacy they said that my doctor would have to write a letter to the insurance company to get the drug approved-I have no idea how long that will take. In the meantime, I thought I would see what has worked for you all that is inexpensive if possible. It is going to cost me $40 a month for the Celebrex even after my insurance approves it. > > Thanks, >
Guest guest
, I was told by my doctor that Voltaren could take 3-6 months before it starts to work. I take it along with Darvacet N-100 for pain (I never thought Voltaren was just for pain). I can't take Codeine so finding painkillers is hard for me but the Darvacet works well. Sometimes I have to take 2 pills every 4-6 hours instead of 1 but I can always feel it working (and when I'm having lots of pain, when it wears off). All of these pain relievers take time - they need to get into your system and stay there. There is no quick fix. Before my RA when I need naproxin for tendonitis flares, I wouldn't feel relief for at least a few days. Once it got into my system for an extended period of time the tendonitis would ease. Three days of naproxin means it's just starting to work. So I'd talk to your doctor about continuing the voltaren in addition to other pain meds. Guest guest
Thanks Jane, My doctor already had some labwork sone yesterday so I am sure she will continue doing so but it is good to know that it needs to be monitored. I am glad to know that celebrex helped you. > > > Hi , > > Everyone reacts a little differently to pain meds depending on your system, > symptoms and illnesses. Guest guest
I take Norco for pain, 6 a day. Also have been on Humira, Methtrexolate, Celebrex and just recently Lyrica. Norco works for the pain, but I hate being on narcotics. The Humira, Methtrexolate and Celebrex, didn't seem to be doing much. Lyrica started working with a week and has been a miracle for me. I've quite the Methtrexolate and may start spacing out the Humira more. The Celebrex I will need for the antidepressant, unless I go back to Prozac. After I am stable I'm going to try to reduce the Norco. I don't know how much any of these cost, but the Lyrica has been just amazing. Until now I didn't know what you all were talking about " getting the right cocktail " but now I do. Plaquiniel didn't do anything for me and I had adverse reactions. Joan in Fair Oaks.
