Guest guest
Whether or not oats are gluten-free is immaterial I think. One of the components of gluten is a lectin known to be problematical for some people. There are lectins besides those found in gluten, e.g. WGA (wheatgerm agglutenin) which is one of the bad guys for MS. So if something is labelled as gluten-free, it may well still have wheatgerm agglutenin and shouldn't be eaten. A cereal doesn't have to have gluten in order to be off-limits. Hence the issue with legumes/tomatoes (no gluten, but lectins).JanetTo: mscured@...: juliedodaro@...: Tue, 16 Dec 2008 15:50:57 +0000Subject: Re: I hate neuros!---ThreonineAmino Acids, to CrystalTechinically, oats are gluten-free however this problem is more withcross-contamination. The oats have to be grown, processed andpackaged in oat-only facilites. Yes - Bob's Red Mill does have agluten-free oat as well as some other companies. _________________________________________________________________ Invite your mail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces.
