,

I never saw any seizures as a result of carnosine. I'm not giving it to Katera

right now simply due to it increasing irritability. I want to try again some

time in the future. But, in my opinion, just about ANYthing you add *could*

cause an increase in seizures for some kids. You never know, it could just upset

the equilibrium by a hair.... enough to tip the scales. Another thing that comes

to mind.... and I don't have anything to scientifically back this up but, I was

talking with our OT once and she said that it made sense to her that as a kid's

brain is busy making new connections, during a big learning spurt, they might

possibly have an increase in seizure activity just from the extra electrical

signals bumping around in there. I don't know if that makes sense to you or

not.... it kind of did to me. Also, a naturopathic doctor I took Katera to once

is of the opinion that sometimes seizures are just the brain's way of creating

balance and dealing with an excess of electrical energy. Our usual way of

looking at all seizures is that they are bad things and should always be

suppressed but, she felt that this is not always true.... that while seizures

can get out of control and breed more and more seizures, sometimes they are

serving a purpose as the body's way of making sense out of things and that we

should at least try to understand them that way. Some people have noticed (me

included) that their child has sometimes been much less irritable following a

big seizure (I'm not talking about the immediate aftermath when kids are

typically sleepy/lethargic)..... as if they finally got to vent off all this

built up static and their nervous sytems can settle down. I know there is

definitely bad/negative effects from seizures and we all want to see them stop

but it's interesting to look at them from another angle sometimes.

Carnosine causing seizures?

Has anyone ever had carnosine cause more seizures that you know of?

After almost 3 weeks seizure-free, we have seen a handful of seizures

here. It may be unrelated, but the only change I've made is adding

Carnosine.

I would appreciate any responses, either yes or no, so that I'm not

guessing at the lack of response. Thanks!

She's still doing great during the day-- like a different child. Her

mind and alertness are better than we've seen in years (or maybe

ever!). Is this from the lack of seizures or from the carnitine or

carnosine? We don't know, but we're enjoying it! If we see more

seizures here (hope we don't), and the alertness either continues or

is compromised, then I guess we'll have a better idea where the

alertness is coming from.

There was a little girl. . . I think it was Ainsley and I'm not sure

if her Mom is still on the list. . . anyway, she did have increased

seizures. I saved the post, if you'd like me to resend.--D

I think it caused partial sz in my son. When we stopped

it (abruptly) he had almost two days of what looked like

partial status - very spacey and unresponsive.
