Hi All...

I have been absent from here for awhile...but things have been steady (knock

on wood)...My daughter is now 5 months old, and I was able to nurse her for

about 4 1/2 months while on between 5-10 mg. Prednisone/day...with my Rheumy's

permission. I had to stop nursing, as I have begun METHOTREXATE 10 mg/week.

About 2 months after having my daughter I had X-rays done of my hands and feet,

and to my doctor and my surprise there was NO DAMAGE!!! Therefore, we decided to

go with METH instead of Enbrel, as he was concerned with the lymphoma risk with

Enbrel (because I am so young...25)...I was just looking for anyone's info on

this drug (METH)...as I was worried about taking it...it seems SO potent.

Also...I do not drink often, but was wondering if anyone else has a few drinks

while on this drug every once in awhile??? I also have noticed the moon face and

belly fat with the Prednisone, as I have been on it for a year....will this go

away???...and how long does that take??? I appreciate any input I can get!

Thanks as always...

Hi ,

I have been on mtx for 10 years now and my ONLY side effect is thinning hair

on the top of my head. I'm lucky that it agrees with my stomach and it

doesn't make me tired as it does to some people. I take 3 pills a week and

I feel great, I do everything I did before, even quilt and hand sew. I'm

hoping that this continues for the rest of my life. I started with RA at

43. I will use prednisone ONLY as a last resort when a flare appears as it

did two years ago, there are some times that you will have to resort to it.

I'm more afraid of pred than I am of mtx, I have diabetes in the family and

fear what pred could do to push me in that direction and I really don't need

the weight gain.

I do have a drink every so often on the mtx, probably 2 a month, my doctor

knows this.

Good luck with your new baby.

I've been on 20 mg MTZ weekly for over a year. I do have severe fatigue and did

experience some stomach upset.  My rheu prescribed Folic Acid and that did the

trick.  I haven't been in remission since Oct 2009 and am experimenting with

with different drug studies to see if I can find the right drug for me.  So far

the tradional drugs used to treat RA haven't worked.  I wish everybody the best

and treat each day as a blessing.
