Guest guest
I think it's a great idea. It would be great to talk in person/phone about our progress w/IE and the principles. Maybe we as a group could at least start a phone list? Then we all would have someone to call if we needed. I, too, am an OAer. I still attend meetings, but alot of what is said/taught in OA I disregard now. And there's alot I don't feel comfortable sharing about regarding IE. OAers wouldn't see the sucess!! Kim IE since Aug 08 Subject: Feeling AloneTo: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Sunday, October 5, 2008, 10:40 PM I would love to have a phone buddie to talk more in depth to about my/our IE journey. I feel so alone doing this. I post here and it's good but not always enough. I use to be in OA so I'm use the talking to someone a lot and I miss that connection. I don't feel like I belong to OA anymore but I feel like I would benefit from that kind of support. In fact one group I use to belong to had phone meetings where we would talk and share how we were doing. There are free services where you can do that. Sorry if I'm stepping out of line asking this but thought it couldn't hurt to ask. thanks
Guest guest
I am an ex-OA'r too - I ended up joining a drop-in support group at a local eating disorder association - it has been tremendously helpful!! > > I would love to have a phone buddie to talk more in depth to about > my/our IE journey. Guest guest
Hi Gail, Others have also expressed a desire for more personal 'meetings' - the ultimate being an in person type like most 12 step type groups do. But until there are more of these available (which means someone has to start and run these), teleconferencing seems to be a good alternative. I've participated in a couple of these groups - both with Gillian, the owner here. I can't see any objections to creating such a thing for this group either - the hardest thing seems to be organizing it - time/days etc. And don't forget that this group has members from many time zones too. About the best way I can think of doing this would be for a member (you?) to put together the service (Skype?), link up those who want to participate and simply announce the time to 'meet'. Sounds like a blast to me, but do also be prepared to play/assign a 'moderator' to help keep the chat to IE as much as possible that is ;-) Best to you - Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > I would love to have a phone buddie to talk more in depth to about > my/our IE journey. Guest guest
All, I am also interested in some possible teleconferences for added support/discussion. I think that Katcha's suggestion to use Skype is the most simple and free method of organizing a real-time discussion with multiple members. Those interested would need to download the Skype software, if not already on their computer, from www.skype.com. I am willing to help organize this and possibly moderate. I've not regularly participated in teleconferences before. So, maybe Katcha, Alana, or Gillian can shed some light on a format that will work well. I was thinking of open conferences as well as possibly having teleconferences that address a specific IE principle. 1-2 hours would probably be my time limit...so possibly limiting the number of participants per call in order to allow some time for each participant to share may be helpful. Guest guest
Just wanted to chime in here briefly. I’m working on something that will include conference calls in the near future (I know Katcha, I’ve been saying that forever! J) but it will be a fee based program. I am happy to help all of you that want to do something on your own, I have a lot of experience with teleconference lines and all that. And as Katcha said, it’s important to have a moderator and to have your topics predetermined, even if it changes during the call. It’s really easy to get off topic! Just let me know how I can help. Thanks!
