Everybody's Flares are different, mine are HOT

Hi Everyone:

I am feeling better this week, like the Enbrel and MTX really started to kick

in, the only thing that is left is the misery of the hot flares. When I get

these flares now, they are not accompanied by swelling or pain, just my body

heats up inside.

I am starting to gage them now. Yesterday, they started up my back, last night

they were all over. Sometimes this burning is almost unbearable, others its

tolerable.

I had my first nightsweat ever (ugh!) and it broke the heat for a few hours, but

then I noticed it started coming up my back again. sometimes its in my shoulders

only. I think the nightsweat was probably related to age-related stuff, rather

than illness or RA, but who knows?

I thought certain foods trigger it (i.e. carbs, dairy), but no, I seem to get

the hots when its humid, or I am upset or very stressed, sometimes I am not even

sure what triggered them.

I took the prenidison 20 mgs, then 10, then 2 days of 5 and I dont notice them

going away.

Am I crazy? I am starting to feel like it, better but burning inside.

Dear OKD,

I am not a Doctor but the burning you are describing sounds more like RSD rather

than RA.

If  you  have a chance, check this website out

www.neurologychannel.com/rsd/symptoms.shtml

I am sorry you are in so much pain.

Thanks, I am going to check it out. I do have actual RA though (diagnosed by

blood tests and symptoms), but maybe I have this too? I will do the research,

cause i dont know what it is, thanks for the suggestion.

You know since you mentioned this, I have had the same thing happening to

me. The RA pain do not seem to get worse until my body starts to heat up. It

will start in my back and sides then sometimes it will start in my

shoulders and or just my whole body sometimes. It can be cold as ice with the

AC

on and then all of a sudden I get so hot and start sweating profusely. It

does get worse after taking the methotrexate also. I asked my PCP about it a

few weeks ago and she said it was maybe menopause. I have been menapausing

since I was 31. I am 49 now and but I know the hot flashes and what they

are like. Not this. It is intense heat and profuse sweating and then all of a

sudden I cool down and be about to freeze.
